Little Girl

The little girl cries at night
As her parents scream from across the hall
Their fighting grows angrier, louder
And something shatters against the wall.

She's been dealing with this
Since she was barely four
She wants to feel a parent's love
Instead of facing a closed door

Behind which her mother bitterly cries
And her father continues to shout.
The little girl scrambles out of bed
She knew she needed out

Quickly she gathers up her clothes
A notebook lays upon her desk
The words pour from her soul
She had to get everything off her chest.

"I'm sick of hearing the accusations.
A peaceful quiet, I've never known."
Tension hangs in the air she breathes
She's suffocated by a broken home

For nine long years, she's listened,
Up to her tender age of thirteen
She drops to the ground below her window
She's taking herself from this scene.
