barbed wire

Barbed wire twists and grasps,

At terrified bodies of people who ran,

At weakened minds who doubted themselves,

At hatred boiling deep in the soul,

At people who thought there was nothing more,

Fences stood, tall and almighty,

Blocking the way of escape,

And those who saw the sunshine,

Wanted to see the world beyond,

But those fences stood and did not falter,

And barbed wire tangled their bones,

And those barriers held the gates closed,

While those people wandered and searched,

For the answer to imprisonment,

But those fences towered and trapped them inside,

and those fences were built in their minds.
