Marianas Trench - Fix Me

Marianas Trench - Fix Me Fix Me, the debut album from Marianas Trench, starts off slow and sad with their song Say Anything, which was Marianas Trench's debut single. The song talks about relationship troubles, and depression. The topics typical Indie/Emo bands would usually have in their lyrics. It starts off slow and calm, then the guitars play in harmony and the calm rhythm continues throughout the entire song. That little b*tch with her head held, so high, talking crap when I cut myself to feel something I know is not a lie...

Then it switches to Decided to Break it, a fun and happy sounding song with the synthesizer and drum machine beats. But the lyrics relate to nightmares and useless promises. The Chorus and bridge repeats a few times before the closing line 'And that’s when I decided to Break it'

September is a song I'm pretty sure a lot of you readers would like. Instead of wishing it would go away - as said in Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day - Josh begs it to make him happy by starting a new month with a washed off slate. Washed by rain, that is. September wont you bring me some rain again? This sun is melting my skin. I can feel the water changing me, its changing me for good

Alibis is the most touching song in the entire album. With the slow chords and almost no drums, it plays out a melancholy tone and makes you remember your worse times, but also reminds you of how you made it through them. But nobody said this was going to be easy... And this is not the man I used to be, but I'm still trying to stop the bleeding. is the bridge to the chorus. This song brings the meaning to the album, Fix Me

Then it continues onto one of the most catchy songs on Much Music -- Shake Tramp.
I doubt you haven't heard that bridge Try a little more, little more, little more. They Slap you like a B*tch and you take it like a wh*re. It blends emo/indie lyrics with a sound you can't help but dance in your seat to. This has to be one of the most well-known songs on the album. But the song is about the most demanding times in a relationship, and how this man is trying to do his best to support it.

Low is quite like Alibis, but has a different approach on the subject. The lyrics talk about confessing and using no excuses. I feel so ashamed.. This used to be easy....
The chords are used in harmony once again, but they stick in your ears like chewed gum does sticks to your skin.

Push has lyrics that try to relate to the listener by using almost clichéd topics. The bass notes and the lead guitar notes are different in this song, and the drumming slows to a short pulsing in the chorus. If you let it, it will wear you down and wear you down...

Far From Here isn't too slow. The lyrics in this song talk about being blamed and that the person doesn't meet someone's expectations, then completely zoning out just to pretend everything’s alright. [i] It feels alright, but that’s a lie that's always near...

Vertigo is no doubt my favorite song on this entire album. This starts off with the typical 'do do do do do ' s but then it goes a little faster, using breaks in drumming and alternates between main guitar chords. The lyrics talk about people's opinion on the songwriter and they start comparing that situation to the others. So what's one more excuse, guess I just like the abuse, Dizzied up in my 'never try'. So What’s a little Vertigo?

Alive Again uses a lot of melancholy lyrics and chords, but it makes sense a very good degree. It talks about recuperating from various bad habits, and the songwriters' struggles to get back on track. It seems so long since I've been gone, I got so used to just hanging on

Skin & Bones was no doubt the saddest song on this album. It talks about Josh's bulimic habits, and how he wished that his reflection could lie. Thin, where have you been? and how he used drugs to numb himself. It all looks so big - never mind, I don’t feel anything.

Although this album sounds depressing, many songs from Fix Me can soon become part of that little sound-track playing in the back of your mind, no matter where you go.

Rating: 9.3 out of 10.0.
