Deja Entendu: Brand New

Deja Entendu: Brand New "Your Favorite Weapon" was surely an unforgettable album. There was much more to it than the drama between John Nolan and Brand New's lead singer, Jesse Lacey. It was a very up-beat and face paced album.Brand New definitely took it down a notch with "Deja Entendu", but still had remains of "Your Favorite Weapon" fused into it.

Track Listing

1. "Tautou" – 1:42- This piece starts off very instrumental then you can hear the phrase "I'm sinking like a stone in the sea. I'm burning like a bridge for your body." "Tautou" is played at a slow and melancholy rate.

2. "Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades" – 3:06-A very different song. But, a good song to tap your fingers to and overplay in your head. One of the few songs in this album that has a long bass fiddle. Jesse's voices pierces the words "Die young and save yourself".

3. "I Will Play My Game Beneath the Spin Light" – 3:57-One of the acoustic pieces of this album. It's played fast-paced, but Jesse sings softly.

4. "Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't" – 5:35-Titled from a line in "Home Alone 2". This track features lyrics like, "Oh we're so c-c-c-c-c-controversial" and "And these are the words you wish you wrote down, this is the way you wish your voice sounds, handsome and smart, oh my tongues the only muscle in my body that works harder than my, heart, and it's all from watching t.v. and from speeding up my breathing."

5. "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" – 4:01-Another up-beat song. Similar to their previous album, Brand New rocks out and features back-and-forth vocals between singer and guitarist Jesse Lacey and guitarist Vincent Accardi.

6. "The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot" – 4:39-This track is titled from Jesse Lacey's dad who called him "The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot", when he would play basketball. Another acoustic piece.

7. "Jaws Theme Swimming" – 4:34-This track starts off slow, then is faded into the sounds of an electric guitar, with a chorus going "And we learn As we age We've learned nothing and my body still aches and you take cause they give though I love you."

8. "Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis" – 5:19-Yet another acoustic piece! One of the softest songs on this record, with lyrics like "I will lie awake and lie for fun and fake the way I hold you".

9. "Guernica" – 3:23-Brand New flares some pop in this song. The song fades out, leaving us with the words, "I'm not writing my goodbyes."

10. "Good to Know That If I Ever Need Attention All I Have to Do Is Die" – 7:00- This track is longer than the average four minute songs that are on this track. Not the strongest song on this album, compared to "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows", this track did not lag on at all.

11. "Play Crack the Sky" – 5:27- "Deja Entendu" comes to a close with it's final acoustic piece. This is the softest piece on this record. The beginning into features the sounds of Jesse picking his guitar and counting a rhythm. This piece doesn't even sound edited, it sounds as if Brand New is personally playing for you.
