Emilie Autumn: 4 O'Clock. It'll Keep You Awake.

Emilie Autumn: 4 O'Clock. It'll Keep You Awake. Emilie Autumn, 29 years old. Classically trained in violin, made famous for the fantastic 'Opheliac', has now wowed me all over again with her fabulous EP 4 o'clock. When I bought it I had expected the usual mix of classic violin tracks; her own brand of 'Victoriandustrial' electric violin and harpsichord. Scarily abnormal vocal ability, and the odd poem thrown in here and there.

But I was to be disappointed if I would have stuck to what I was used to hearing, luckily enough though, I thought that the lovely Miss. Autumn would surprise me. But it was a very pleasant surprise. I was listening to the Emilie and guitar live track My Faithweather Friend, with my iPod on album shuffle, and I thought something had gone wrong with it when she started reading. Emilie has two 'tracks' are readings from her upcoming book 'The Asylum'. Following that there was a rather delightful cover of the master Alice Cooper's (we are not worthy) Is It My Body. And of course 4 o'clock. Which kept me up all night! The only thing that let it down in my view were the remixes. The 'Bad Poetry' remix of Gothic Lolita, left me unsatisfied. But the remix of Swallow, was okay, except the mans voice over the chorus. Over all 8/10. And I would recommend it to a friend.
