Who Are You Now?

Who Are You Now? As some may have heard, the new This Providence CD came out a few weeks ago. I, being one of the people who pre-ordered it, received the CD basically the day it came out in stores. My overall opinion on the album was that it was pretty great.

The album artwork, in a very vague way, represents the title of the album. A little clipping of the band, in what appears to be a jumbled up city. Whether it represents the album title or not, the album artwork was well made and fun to look at.

The title was also something that drew me in. A simple question that could mean so much. It could be about a relationship that ended up ending on a bad note, and the question could be directed towards the ex a while later, asking who they were now, and maybe if their life was how it used to be. Any other interpretations of the title are welcome for you to tell me.

Now on to the music. The songs on the album weren't too loud but not too mellow, something I really enjoyed. It was a good listen to in the car, and I think even my mom liked it slightly. The lyrics were pretty well written, and the use of words like 'baby' and 'honey' sounded good when Dan Young sang them. Usually, I hate over-use of those words in songs, because it hardly ever sounds sincere, but when used by This Providence, it sounded right. I can tell that there was emotion behind the songs. I enjoyed all thirteen tracks of the album.

The song that stuck out to me the most, though, had to be the 'renovated' My Beautiful Rescue. This was the song that made me fall in love with the band a while back, and when I saw this song on the track-list, I knew that it'd be the first song I listen to. What I heard didn't disappoint me. Keeping the lovely lyrics and adding a few cool guitar parts helped the song come back to life for me again.

Overall, I enjoyed Who Are You Now? and it really made me fall in love with the band all over. I think I'll be looking out for new This Providence songs/albums from now on, because this CD definitely didn't disappoint.
