The High End of Low

The High End of Low Marilyn Manson's new album, The High End of Low, is number 4 on the Billboard Top 200 albums. This album is a mix of his older sound and the anti-American lyrics that everyone has come to expect from him.

Marilyn Manson's new album was released on May 26, 2009. This album consists of a lot of heavy rock songs and some debatable lyrics that show what he's thinking about American life and the middle-class that he usually attacks. This album is a lot heavier than his 2007's 'Eat Me, Drink Me'.

Manson and his long-time bassist Twiggy Ramirez, who recently returned to Manson's side, created a lot of different kinds of tracks in this album. Even a 'power ballad' that you wouldn't expect from Manson.

The album starts with a song called 'Devour'. This song starts with the lyrics, "I'll swallow up all of you. Just like a big, big bottle of pills..." He is talking about 'eating' up the American culture like he takes pills. The song is a dark song that says the girl isn't crying in fact, he has her blood all over him. He may have killed her but that's debatable.

The next track is 'Pretty as a Swastika.' He is talking about how bad she hurt him because he says "Let me show you where it hurts. There's more than one way, to make you cry." But now he's going to hurt her and take her down.

Third is 'Leave a Scar'. This too is talking about hurting someone because they are abusive to each other. He then recognizes that he's a threat to himself as much or more than he is to anyone else. The chorus is a chanting one, because it repeats "What ever doesn't kill you will leave a scar." Again, he says the girl may do something but he will screw her over most likely.

'Four Rusted Horses' is the fourth track. This song is just a slam on the public saying "Everyone will come to my funeral to make sure that I stay dead." He is acknowledging the fact that people don't like him but will be happy when he is finally dead. He says he's seen the coffin that's going to be his soon.

The next song, is the single that was off of this album. The song is called 'Arma-god-d**n-mother-f*****g- geddon.' He is in the first verse making fun of everything that people in Hollywood do. He mentions getting a facelift, the taxes that the government is shoving on us, and abortion. This song is a slam at American culture in general and the celebrity mind. He's making fun of what celebrities do. "First you try to f*** it, then you try to eat it, if it hasn't learned your name you better kill it before they see it." Manson also mentions the TV and the news about how influential it is in American life.

'Blank and White' is the sixth track. He in the beginning of the song is talking about he can be the excuse for everything but he will "choke everyone down." The chorus is a protest of things and talking about how people sing words they wouldn't say other wise.

'Running to the End of The World' is a song you wouldn't expect from Marilyn Manson because it's a soft, power ballad. This song almost feels like he's talking about a memory with someone because of the wording of the song. He mentions in this song dropping his family because they didn't approve of who he was dating or who he was. He also mentions that they said goodbye because they "were something fatal."

The eighth track is called "I Want To Kill You Like They Do In Movies". He is saying how their life is kind of like a film because he says he can run his life like a movie strip and kill out who he wants because there is another person like the girl.

The next track is called, "WOW." This track is about a girl is talking to him asking him to change because she doesn't like what he is becoming but he's asking her if she really knows who he is. Half way through the song he decides that he doesn't actually like her because she doesn't like who he is.

The tenth track is called, "Wight Spider." Marilyn Manson in this song is saying that he could build the girl anything but he doesn't want her to owe him anything. They can just be mutual to each other not one in debt to the other.

Number eleven is "Unkillable Monster." Manson is talking about how distant they are becoming and he doesn't quite know if they were in love or not because they break up and then get back together so much. He doesn't know if she's just in his imagination or they are together.

This is the anti-American song on this album. It's called "We're From America." This song is all about over-exaggerated American customs. He mentions things as abortion and how we "speak American." He talks about how the we'd rather be a martyr than be a victim and how we don't appreciate the literature we are given.

Number thirteen is "I Have To Look Up Just To See Hell." This song talks about partying and then dying and a soul going to hell. The title of the album is mentioned in this song. Manson in this song says that he fell out of grace just for a person. Then in verse two he talks about a corpse sitting and rotting and moving with the Earth.

Fourteenth track is "Into the Fire." This track starts out with piano and is another slower song by Marilyn Manson. He says, in the first verse, he would break his own arm bone off just so he could stab the person every time he thought of her. He also talks about her falling into Hell and trying to drag him down with her.

The fifteenth track is called, "15". He is talking about leaving this girl and she is vain thinking that he wrote the song for her. And also he says he is protecting what he thinks is right.

This is a really good album and I would definitely give it 5 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed it and it definitely sounds like the old Manson.
