Nightmare

Nightmare I do realize that I’m a little late with this review, but after coming across a YouTube comment last night, I felt like writing this lovely review down. This isn’t about my love for the band. This is about one single that has many fans getting crazy addicted.

After devastating news that came near the end of December a lot of us fans were asking: “What’s going to happen next?” A lot were scared to see one of our favorite bands quit and at the same time would respect their decision. After the nail-biting and waiting, we found out that they entered the studio. Soon came news that the album was close to finishing and that’s when the teasing began.

First thing was the website being taken down and replaced by a single static deathbat, same with their MySpace page and a static deathbat video was released on YouTube. We knew what was coming next and the waiting drove tons of us insane, but soon the preview of their number one single hit the net. The single goes by the name of Nightmare, just like their album.

On May 18th, the single was digitally released and that’s when the invasion began. How a song pulled most fans in, it wrapped them up and kept them addicted. I myself couldn’t stop listening to the single.

With the amazing intro, that a lot have been saying should be the intro to the album instead of this song. I disagree. The intro is a creepy music box sound that pulls you in and that’s when the drumming sends a wave through your body as it catches you off guard. The song starts with M. Shadows showing his powerful vocal skills as he screams, “Nightmare,” before the guitars take you through a wave, while the first part of the song starts charging towards you.

The powerful mash up of guitars that were created by Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance really pulls you in as Johnny Christ’s bass playing skills makes your heart pump, depending on how high you have the song playing. After a good three minutes, Syn gives us another one of his many amazing solos as she shreds the guitar never killing the creepy vibe the song’s rhythm had captured. With M.’s laughter before the next part begins and it all falls perfectly together until the very end.

Mike Portnoy did a fantastic job capturing The Rev’s powerful and quite unique style of drumming. At the beginning of this song you could easily tell. Some fans had even asked if The Rev had actually gotten the chance to record the drum tracks for Nightmare, just to be sure of who they were listening to. Of course Mike did an extraordinary job on helping the guys out. He captured Avenged Sevenfold in an easy grasp. It’s easy to see why he was one of Rev’s favorites.

With the release of their single they pumped us up for their album that comes out in July, an album that takes the same title as their first single.

[b]The track listing consists of:

All in all, it's a chilly track with the rhythm combined with Matt's powerful vocals.
