Angels & Airwaves Strike Big With Love Part II

It’s hard to deny the fact that leaving Blink-182 and forming Angels & Airwaves was front man Tom Delonge’s best decision. For fans of the band Blink-182, the band was a never ending cycle of dick jokes, ex-girlfriends, and bestiality. Up until the 2003 release ‘Self-Titled’, the lyrics were nearly always lighthearted, save for the songs ‘Adam’s Song’ on ‘Enema of the State’, and ‘Stay Together For The Kids’ on ‘Take Off Your Pants And Jacket’. However, prior to the break up and indefinite hiatus, fans were shocked to see a more serious side of Blink, and an all-around darker record. However, with the break up came a new side to Delonge that fans only received a glimpse of—an extremely talented song writer and music composer.

There is no denying that since the formation of Angels & Airwaves, Delonge’s song writing has nearly doubled in quality since his first years with Blink. With new technology at his hands to create a bigger sound, Delonge eagerly indulged himself in his work and it pays off. From ‘We Don’t Need To Whisper’ to ‘I-Empire’, the band has made a tremendous name for themselves.

But now the band has made an even bigger name for themselves, releasing the double album ‘Love Parts One & Two’, along with an accompanying film, ‘Love’. ‘Love Part One’ was originally released as a free album to be downloaded from the band; a move that Delonge has stated was to get his band out there. In an age where piracy rules the internet and albums are too pricey for most, this was one of the smartest moves the band has made. It features hard hitting tracks and big instrumentals that the fans have learned to love.

The real quality however, comes in the newly released album, ‘Love Part Two’. The album itself features eleven equally strong tracks, ranging from a big sound to extremely strong lyrical content. ‘Anxiety’, the first single from the new record, easily became a hit among fans and was premiered at the end of the ‘Love’ movie when it was making a special run in theaters. ‘Surrender’, the bands new single, is equally as strong, with a more quieter intro and verse, exploding into huge lyrical content and instrumentals in the chorus. Unlike I-Empire’, ‘We Don’t Need To Whisper’, and ‘Love Part One’, the new record features an amazing balance between hard hitting sad songs, to happy upbeat songs, and dwindling down to vindictive songs about the past and relationships. It creates the perfect balance that every record should have, and has easily relatable songs with metaphors that only Delonge would use.

For an album that was meant only to be a soundtrack to the movie, ‘Love Part Two’, can easily be Angels & Airwaves best work to date
