¡Uno!

Since their formation in 1987, Green Day has been constantly writing new albums. From 39/Smooth to 21st Century Breakdown, they've shown their talent in multiple genres of music, including punk and pop-punk.

But, it's time for a change of pace. Enter ¡Uno!, the first of a trilogy of albums.

With the original idea of a double album in mind, Green Day front man, Billie Joe Armstrong, started recording material for this album February 14, 2012. However, Armstrong came up with the idea of creating a trilogy of albums like Van Halen's Van Halen I, Van Halen II and Van Halen III. "The songs just kept coming," Armstrong said in an interview, "I'd go: Maybe a double album? No, that's too much nowadays. Then more songs kept coming. And, one day, I sprung it on the others: 'Instead of Van Halen I, II and III, what if it's Green Day I, II and III, and we all have our faces on each cover?"

April 11th, Green Day announced the coming of their trilogy entitled ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré!, which are to be released September 25, 2012, November, 13 2012 and January 15, 2013, respectively.

From the first album, the single "Oh Love", hit airwaves on July 16, 2012.

In another interview, the band stated that the first album would be different from the sound of 21st Century Breakdown and American Idiot or, in Armstrong's words, "punchier" and "more power-pop--somewhere between AC/DC and the early Beatles." He also said that a few tracks on the first album would sound like dance music and garage-rock.

The cover artwork for the first album of the trilogy features a simple green striped background, with a black-and-white cutout of Armstrong's head with his eyes crossed out in pink. Green Day is brightly painted across the top of the image, with ¡UNO! scrawled graffiti-style in the bottom-left corner.

The album’s track listing is as follows:

  1. Nuclear Family
  2. Stay the Night
  3. Carpe Diem
  4. Let Yourself Go
  5. Kill the DJ
  6. Fell For You
  7. Loss of Control
