Green Day - Uno!

Finally the kings of punk rock are back. It’s a great album and I highly recommend it to every single Green Day fan, as well as anyone who enjoys rock music in general.

Nuclear Family

What a great intro song to the album. Straight away we’ve got a good fast beat to listen to with catchy lyrics. This song is sure to get stuck in your head, and every time Billie counts down at the end of the song, I instantly feel like listening to it once more. It’s a fun rock song, and I give it 5/5.

Stay The Night

This song’s intro is slow and seems like it might be a bit boring and simple. But don’t let that put you off from listening to it. After about thirty seconds, another fast beat starts and Billie opens with “Well I ain’t got much time, so I’ll get to the point.”. I love that lyric simply for the fact that it’s one of the things I love about Green Day songs; they’re fast and to the point, but amazing. This song also has a great chorus to sing along to, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy listening to it. Another 5/5.

Carpe Diem

I’ll be honest; I thought this song would be cliché and boring, since so many bands are always saying “seize the day” these days. Even one of the lyrics says “Living a cliché, gonna seize the day.”, perhaps addressing that very fact. However, this is a powerful song in all aspects, and you’ll find yourself singing along in no time. I give this song a 5/5 simply because it’s so enjoyable to listen to.

Let Yourself Go

This song caught my attention a while ago when Green Day released the live video for it. I love how fast Tré is going on those drums, and it’s the fastest he plays for the whole album. Combine that with snarling lyrics and a fun chorus and you’ve got yet another amazing song. This is without a doubt a 5/5 song.

Kill The DJ

“Kill The DJ” is the second single off the album, and at first I was unsure of what to think of it. It is the closest Green Day have ever come to a pop sound, but after listening to it some more I have to admit it’s a great song. There are subtle things that you can’t hear over a laptop speaker, so you definitely have to turn it up loud on the stereo to truly enjoy the song. The main thing to listen for is Mike’s groovy bass. It is seriously amazing, and really makes this song a great song. You’ll be singing along to this 5/5 song in no time.

Fell For You

From the title you can probably tell this is a sweet love song, though the opening lyric “I woke up in a pool of sweat, at first I thought that I pissed the bed.” makes you think otherwise. Don’t worry though; the rest of the song is full of lovely romance that you can easily sing along to and relate to. It’s not as strong as the other songs, so I rate it 4/5.

Loss of Control

This is yet another fast song with some angst in it. However, it hasn’t really grown on me. I feel like it’s too similar to “Let Yourself Go”, and that it’s already been said and done on this album. For that, I give it only a 3/5.

Troublemaker

I lied. “Kill The DJ” isn’t the closest Green Day have ever come to pop music. This song is. The first time I heard it I almost freaked out. It wasn’t what I expected at all. But, I must say, after a few listens, it has really grown on me. This is such a fun song, and any rocker of any age will love singing along to this one. The solo is pretty cool, and it will quickly make you want to clap along to the beat. 4/5.

Angel Blue

Green Day pick up the pace once more with this quick beat and catchy chorus. Though, that’s pretty much all it is. This song hasn’t grown on me yet either, but it’s still a good song. I think it will appeal to younger teenagers more, and I give it a 4/5.

Sweet 16

This one is the other sweet love song on the album. Billie’s vocals are so soft and youthful, and they’re wonderful to listen to. I think females will probably like this song a lot more than males, and since I’m one of them I rate it 5/5.

Rusty James

“Rusty James” is a typical rock song. With a good beat and a good chorus, it’s sure to be a good listen. I don’t feel like this is a standout song on the album, but it’s definitely not a filler, so I give it a 4/5.

Oh Love

As Green Day’s first single from this album, it wasn’t that strong. I didn’t like it that much and was concerned for the rest of the album. However, “Oh Love” is a song that shouldn’t be by itself. It needs the rest of the album to be played before it, and then it’s a great song. I definitely feel like it concludes this album perfectly, and that makes it great and a 5/5.

Overall this a 5/5 album. Without a doubt, Green Day have still got it. After listening to the album non-stop for the past few days, I can definitely say I’ve enjoyed it. I truly can’t wait for Dos and Tre to see what epic songs are on them.
