Green Day - ¡Dos!
At this point, you've probably listened to ¡Dos! already. This album is full of a variety of different sounds in different forms, but it all seems to fit perfectly. Critics have been calling this album either another win for Green Day, or a win itself, or that's what I've seen.
See You Tonight
See You Tonight is pretty soft, laid back, and a bit versatile at that, it's almost like the We're So Starving of ¡Dos!, so to speak. But it still fits pretty damn well with the rest of the album, if put into a certain perspective. 8/10
Fuck Time
Beware: If you laugh at things that are so very blunt, you will certainly laugh at this. Admittedly, I couldn't stop laughing when I first heard this track. Granted, it sounds probably the closest you will get to "classic Green Day," on this record, for lack of a better term. It's already where you catch onto what Armstrong was saying when he said the trilogy was heavily influenced/about sexual tension. This track is heavily laced with profanities, so if you're one of the Green Day fans that are offended by profanities, you might want to go on iTunes and get the clean version of this record. 10/10
Stop When the Red Lights Flash
The first thing I noticed about this title was that it was seemingly tied to a line in Oh Love, the first single-track from the first record that got so much criticism until the album actually came out. The song immediately kicks in, and starts off in a somewhat fun way, and when Billie starts singing, if you listen closely, you can hear a but of an overlay effect used on his voice. This seemed to phase a lot of people I've talked to. They said they were worried Green Day was selling out. Haven't those rumors been speculating for the better part of the past twenty years, though? 10/10
Lazy Bones
This track starts off pretty calm, and remains that way until the chorus. There's a bit of a pause at one point that seemingly signals the ending, but is really just a creative—for lack of a better word—thing the band added. 9/10
Wild One
Personally, this may be one of my favorite songs on ¡Dos!. It doesn't start off calm, but it doesn't start off at a manic speed, either. It may or may not be what you expected from Green Day, depending on if you expected it to be full-fledged punk-rock with profanity every other word and think it sounds like pages ripped out of a teenage girl's diary otherwise or note. This is most definitely a Green Day song, but if that's what your expectations are, you might not like this. 10/10
Makeout Party
This song is most certainly one someone would find at a high schooler's party, or even someone in college having a party and trying to get laid. But isn't that what Green Day's always done—written songs that seemingly fit more for a teenage demographic? Well this is most certainly one of the tracks that could possibly get someone to—of course—make out, or possibly fuck. Depending on who it would be, I suppose. 10/10
Stray Heart
This song is the one everybody has been talking about since, what, early October? This track is most certainly the one that made everyone so excited for ¡Dos!, considering it was the first song we'd heard. Some people were disappointed, saying this doesn't sound like Green Day, but while it doesn't sound like the Green Day you might have grown up listening to, it still sounds good on its own. 10/10
Ashley
This track is the one I've heard the best reviews for, which I can't say I don't understand, it's personally one of my favorites, and is one of the more guitar-driven songs that you would expect from Green Day. 10/10
Baby Eyes
This song was actually started in Ashley, when it fades in. But this song is simple—rock 'n roll. Is there another way to explain it? Granted, this song doesn't have the same catchiness and fun as the rest of the record. 9/10
Lady Cobra
This song is pretty fun, and actually makes the next track make sense. Without this track, the next would seem pointless. Lady Cobra, if unaware, is the woman on the back of the CD. 8.5/10
Nightlife
This song is most certainly not what you expected from Green Day, I'll tell you now. The woman "rapping" in the song is perceived to be Lady Cobra. I said that Troublemaker was the closest Green Day has gotten to pop, but this is pop. This is the farthest the band has ever even from punk. 10/10
Wow! That's Loud
Go figure, this isn't even that loud. Don't get me wrong, I do love the song, but the title seems so backward to the song itself. There isn't much to say on this song, it speaks for itself and there isn't really a way to explain it. 10/10
Amy
This song is definitely a personal favorite of mine. It showcases Billie Joe Armstrong's talent extraordinarily. It is Billie stripped down with a guitar in a beautiful manner. I have talked to a lot of people about this album, and most say this was their favorite, because Billie's vocals are beautiful, the melodys are magnificent, and it is simple but still managing to be so beautiful. 10/10
I can safely say that I give this album another 10/10. Granted, this is all opinion-based from myself. If it seems bias at all, it's probably just because I really love it and I'm having trouble not giving it praise.
