The 69 Eyes - X
This is the band’s tenth album, and they have been claiming these ten songs are their best pieces of work so far. I’d probably have to agree. This is a great gothic rock album, and I really enjoy listening to it.
Love Runs Away
The album starts with exactly what you’d expect from the band, partly because of the powerful guitars and typical beat from Jussi. The chorus should be easily stuck in your head. I give it a 4/5 rating.
Tonight
I feel like this is a bit of a weak song to follow “Love Runs Away”. The whole song just seems to be lacking a bit of magic, in my opinion, so I only rate it 3/5.
Black
This track is a great sing-along song that has the classic gothic rock sound to it, from the guitar to the deep vocals. It’s a 4/5 and enjoyable to listen to.
If You Love Me The Morning After
My rating system doesn’t go high enough for this song. “If You Love Me The Morning After” is the highlight of the album and is just absolutely beautiful in every single aspect. Your ears will be so happy to listen to this 5/5 song, so give it a go!
Red
The first single from the album is a good one. Though I found the video a bit disappointing, it’s hard to deny that Jyrki’s voice is amazing and passionate. The slow pace breaks up the album well, and it’s a clear 5/5 rating.
I Love The Darkness In You
This song is yet another fun one to sing along to. It’s a bit different, but still has that gothic vibe, and I give it a 5/5 as well.
Borderline
“Borderline” is a softer song with acoustic guitar and meaningful lyrics. It’s the second single with yet another unimpressive video, and it just hasn’t grown on me as much as the other songs have. I only rate it 3/5, but I know others will enjoy it a lot.
I’m Ready
The 69 Eyes have a lot of fun rock ‘n’ roll songs on this album, and here’s another one. It’s my favourite, and every part of the song just works, including the guest female vocals. You should definitely give this 5/5 song a try!
I Know What You Did Last Summer
At first I thought this song would be a bit cliché and not work, but somehow the band has pulled it off. It’ll be stuck in your head before you know it. I rate it 5/5.
When A Love Comes To An End
It’s pretty normal for The 69 Eyes to end an album with a slower, softer song, and X is no exception. However, I feel like it doesn’t quite live up to the rest of the album, and it has the lowest plays by far. I only give it a 2/5.
Rosary Blue
This song isn’t on the album, but if you’re a fan you’ve probably heard about it. Go and find it on YouTube because it’s a great song. Kat’s voice isn’t the best, but I think they complement each other well and I’d rather this 4/5 song ended the album.
Ultimately, I think the band has stepped up. Beautiful vocals, great beats and catchy guitars, all with The 69 Eyes’ goth ‘n’ roll vibe – fans couldn’t have asked for much more. I think this a very good album, so you should definitely listen to it.
