Peace

Many people have mixed opinions on any album released by Welsh rockers Kids In Glass Houses since their smash-hit Dirt. 2013's offering, Peace may still not be a patch on the album that spilled hits such as "Undercover Lover" and "Hunt The Haunted", but there is doubt that that the track listing is out to impress.

"Peace"

The album's title track boasts the bright pop-rock sound that brought the band their fame. With an infectiously catchy chorus and lyrics that you find rolling off of your tongue with extreme ease, it isn't difficult to see why this tune was picked to be released as a single.

"Drive"

Another of the album's two current single tracks, "Drive" removes itself from the bubblegum sounds of "Peace" and opts for a darker overtone. With a driving beat and deliciously minor-themed chords, "Drive" packs a punch that shows that the band have matured their sound a little.

"Set Me Free"

With a starting sound oddly reminiscent of "Undercover Lover", the chorus for "Set Me Free" shatters any expectations this track sets within the first minute. Another infectious hook with synth-esque guitar sounds makes this song a sure-fire party favourite.

"VIP"

Another of the album's more mature tracks, "VIP" seems to take a dig at the celebrity hierarchy that the band have no doubt experienced at times. With the chorus exploding after a relatively quiet verse, this song has an impact.

"Novocaine"

The synths throughout "Novocaine" give the entire track an effect much like its namesake -- a dreamlike trance that slowly swells into another song driven heavily by a strong beat and infectiously catchy guitars.

"Stormchasers"

This song is definitely for fans of "Sunshine". With a similar soft guitar sound that explodes throughout the chorus, this track is sure to be a favourite with fans of quieter songs.

"Runaways"

"Runaways" uses a clever mix of minor and major tonality to create an anthemic tune. The mix of simple guitar melodies and Aled's vocals creates a mix between a beast of a song and a soft tune, something that is sure to please fans of both types of song.

"Up All Night"

Another song with the potential to become a single, "Up All Night" is a song that will no doubt be stuck in your head for hours. As the title and repeated lines from the post-chorus exclaim, you'll most definitely be up all night singing this one.

"Black Cloud"

Palm-muted notes and simple rhythms give this song a sound similar to "Novocaine" but "Black Cloud" has one difference -- a chorus with a serious punch. As the guitars come in, you'll find yourself dancing around the room to this tune before long.

Nightcrawler

Another simple verse signifies the introduction to Peace's outro track, but as the track builds, so does the volume. An incredibly atmospheric and dreamlike song, "Nightcrawler" is the perfect song to leave the album on.

Although it can take one or two listens to fully appreciate the genius of this album, Peace is an album that, in my opinion, comes incredibly close to being as good as Dirt. With tracks ready and armed to cater to the needs of all fans, Peace is an album ready to impress. And with the diverse range of talent showcased throughout, it is set to do just that.
