Toheart

A much expected Korean pop album is finally dropped on the 10th of March and Billboard has already deemed it feelgood anthem of the year! I'm talking about this very unique collaboration between Key of SHINee and Woohyun of Infinite, two popular South Korean boy bands. Under the name Toheart, these two young men give us tunes to dance to and sing along (well, at least the key English catch phrases).

Allow me to take you on a journey throughout this exciting mini-album!

1. Intro

This short track, much like the title suggest, serves as an intro to the album and it's a vibrant jazzy tune that flows into the next track.

2. Delicious

The first single of the album follows the intro's jazzy vibe with a pop twist. The music video takes the viewer on a colourful adventure to the fantastic world of Toheart where to two friends seem to fight for the attention of a girl but end up giving more attention to one another in a cute bromance with fireworks and an almost childish atmosphere.

3. Maze

This electrifying song screams summertime with its vibrant guitars and catchy chorus, this song could be the soundtrack of a fun ride at an amusement park on a summer night.

4. You're My Lady

A more sensual track, this song would be more suiting of a walk, also on a summer night, but in a much more private place with a special someone. The boys' voices take on a lower tone as they confess their feelings for their loved one. Could it be about the girl they fight for in the music video for Delicious?

5. Tell Me Why

The album seems to slow down a little at this point, as this track is slightly less vibrant than the previous tracks in the album. However, the chorus has a very colourful 90's feel to it, reminds me of the Backstreet Boys and makes me feel nostalgic.

6. Departure

This song also has a nostalgic vibe to it or maybe it's just me, as it reminds me of some Portuguese pop songs with the harmonica intro. It feels like the type of song to listen to on the train back home after the best summer holidays of your life. The lyrics talk about changes and running away, which somewhat reflect those feelings we get after a great experience, when we get back to our day-by-day routine.

Conclusion

This very special sub-unit was a fantastic and refreshing idea, as the two singers come from different backgrounds, musically speaking, but they seem to have amazing chemistry with one another, which made these songs work so special. Even for those of us who speak zero Korean (like myself), both singers convey emotions so well that they make it easy to understand the feelings behind each song. And I personally think it's fantastic that Key finally has a chance to display his incredible singing voice.

Overall, a great album that is definitely going the soundtrack of my spring and summer!
