Disgusting

For a band that started out as "a joke band", Beartooth has taken the world by storm with their debut album Disgusting, released June 10, 2014 off Red Bull Records.

For a fairly new band, formed in 2012, Beartooth has managed to put out an album that has a little bit of everything for fans of metalcore and hardcore punk. The record offers a variety of both clean and unclean vocals, courtesy of Caleb Shomo. The ex Attack Attack! vocalist abandoned many of his previous band's elements to his new project, like the use of electronics.

Now, what makes Beartooth's LP so unique you ask? If you asked me, I would say the screaming. Shomo's vocals have improved drastically, even since their 2013 EP Sick. His style of screaming is like nothing you have ever heard before. In songs like "I Have A Problem" his screams are made to sound almost as if he is going insane.

The tracks off this record consist of melodic guitar and catchy chorus' that have seemed to capture listeners. It seems that the band has managed to create an album that it both catchy and fun to listen to, yet covers rather deep and concerning topics like alcoholism ("I Have A Problem") and domestic abuse ("Beaten In Lips"). The overall theme is understood to be that there is pain in life, but when you push through it, joy will be found.

Considering that Beartooth has only been a band for about two years, they have an impressive fan base, and this LP has helped their following grow even more. With over a million view on their music video for "I Have A Problem", there is no doubt that Beartooth is going big places.

If you're looking for a hard hitting record with heavy breakdowns, melodic verses, and tracks that are guaranteed circle-pit starters, then this is the album for you. With powerful lyrics that are bound to be stuck in you head to powerful lyrical grounds that are likely to cause you to dance or cry, Beartooth is definitely worth giving a listen.
