When they disappeared on June 2015, I freaked out 'cause I thought they were gone forever but when I calmed down I definitely thought it was a publicity stunt (I still love them though).
I think that their second album showcases more of Healy's ability to write songs. Although admittedly, he could still grow as a writer but I believe that his experiences has pushed him to be a better person, as reflected in some of his songs. I like this 80's pop inspired album because I love it when bands explore different styles. It might take some time to get used to it but I love it all the same.
I definitely remember that and the fandom freaking the fuck out, and I honestly panicked myself because I thought they were over (this was at a time when a whole bunch of my fave bands were announcing farewell tours and amicable splits and I was like NO NOT THESE GUYS TOO THEY'RE ONLY JUST STARTING) and I didn't even understand what Matty's cryptic comic strip meant until they started dropping further hints. :') I'm definitely so glad it wasn't a split because this album is gold.
I agree! I think that's the good thing about young bands who come out fresh and new and brilliant -- their stuff is great, and there's still room to grow, which is super exciting. And I love the variant of inspiration and styles too, they're never afraid to get a little weird but it always comes out so catchy. Or heartbreaking. Or both.
