Kill Hannah

Kill Hannah "They may have a sexually ambiguous nature - like me. They may sing in a nasal voice - like me. But unlike me, they are the future of Chicago rock." - Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins on Kill Hannah.

Honestly Mistaken was released in 1993 by In A Jar UK. Mat Devine sang and played for the band before he formed Kill Hannah. At the time he was attending Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois, which would be his only semester and where he met Hannah. But their relationship was anything but normal.

When asked, he stated, "I was at some basement party where a horrible college band was playing Hungry Like The Wolf and I met this waif with purple hair, three nose piercings, dressed like a train wreck. She was sixteen and attended the local catholic high school. I thought she was amazing, turns out she was also completely insane. We ha a short, bizarre relationship that ended in my first heartbreak ever - really messed me up for a while. Last I heard, she's living in Switzerland. Probably stirring things up over there."

After their breakup, Mat printed off stickers to put on In A Jar UK's seven inch record that read Kill Hannah. In 1995, Mat formed Kill Hannah and Kerry Finerty joined as lead guitarist around the time she began dating Mat. She is credited for co-writing the songs Future #1, Nerve Gas, New Medicine and Trains Are So Loud. These songs have been on six albums.

From 1996 to 2002, Kill Hannah independently released eight albums. In 2002, they signed to Atlantic Records while they were managed by Steve Huten, who formerly managed Kid Rock. For Never and Ever was their first studio album on Atlantic Records with eleven songs. Sean Beavan produced it and Tim Palmer mixed the mostly re-recorded versions of songs preformed for years. The recording band was Dan Weise (guitars, pedals), Jon Radtke (guitars, synth), Mat Devine (lead vocals, guitar and piano), Greg Corner (bass) and Garret Hammond (drums).

They filmed a music video for Unwanted which wasn't released until 2006 as an Internet only video. The video is mainly the band playing in a white room. Throughout the video, fans stand behind them as more show up. It ends with them walking out of the room.

2003 through 2007 Kill Hannah has toured and opened for about twenty-four bands. Some include Chevelle, HIM, The Sounds, Evanescence, Velvet Revolver and the Buzzcocks as well as six headlining tours. In December of 2005, they released Welcome to Chicago, their first and only DVD. A year later, Until There's Nothing Left of Us came out on Atlantic Records before they changed to Roadrunner Records.

Garret Hammond was replaced by Elias Mallin after he got high and became paralyzed from the neck down. Elias remains in the band to this day.

Kill Hannah have played more shows at Chicago's Metro Venue than any other band. They are notorious for their touring van breakdowns that sometimes make them late for shows. Mat has done a tour blog on Fuse.tv which was filled with many mishaps and breakdowns. A sniper heart is their logo and they spell the band name with a backwards K.

Mat co-founded the Chicago Suicide Club which is a lifestyle brand dedicated to art, fashion and events. The band hold an annual Christmas show called New Heart For Christmas. This year is going to be the fifth. Kill Hannah still stand outside handing out fliers in any weather after shows, an act which gained them popularity.

Greg Corner is a DJ and founded Chicago's Dark Wave Disco which is a monthly dance. Dark Wave Disco has been called one of the hottest parties in America.

Currently, Kill Hannah are on tour.
