Panic? At the Disco - Comments

  • They were inspired by oldies.
They've matured and their music has changed for the better.
Personally, if you don't like change in music then your just . . . you can't accept change.
It's music, and personally if it sounds good to me, I'll listen to it.
And both albums are good. So, would I listen to either? No, I'd choose 'or' because both albums are amazing.

  • Really? (about the song names) Personally, I thought they WERE changed and wasn't... well, I won't say pleased, but the song names were comepletely watered down and totally not random enough.

Also, you can't forget my favorte Panic song 'There's a Good Reason These Tables are Numbered, You Just Haven't Thought of It Yet' (best song on the album)

  • I love Panic's long song names! I think its what gives them a little more of their own style. I really wish that they stayed their name the same ( with the !) and i want them to keep their songs really long too. Ha ha I was listening to them when I read your reveiw..

  • Yeah exactly. Although, I first started liking Panic! after Pretty. Odd. came out I didn't start loving them until I heard Lying Is The Most Fun... and But It's Better If You Do. I was hooked as soon as I heard I Write Sins Not Tradgedies. Then my sister bought the first album and I thought "Wow, all these songs are so inspiring and different". Then I bought Pretty. Odd. and I was like "What was the point in that? They were so much better before?" Now I'm like "How come everybody's calling ATL sellouts, but nobody did when Panic! released this CD?" Not that I'm calling them sellouts but I'm surprised that nobody else did. xx

  • I agree with Glow Worm.
Anything Panic does I think I'll go along with it. Their new songs are more catchy more brighter. I like the new side of Panic at the disco.

  • I like both albums. I prefer Pretty. Odd. though. "I Write Sins" was my full introduction into the music I now like, but their whole first album was full of angst. We all know they trashed the original second album, before the line up would probably have been:
    A->B->C
A being A Fever You Can't Sweat Out and C being Pretty. Odd., they simply skipped B and had it go:
    A->C
    There was no transition.
All in all though, I love Pretty. Odd., all the tracks remind me of summer because I got the CD in April 2008. Being is reminders of summer it makes me feel warm which is nice when it's about 1 degree out in the middle of January. It also makes me feel like writing and a giddy, happy feeling.
All in all I think Pretty. Odd. is the better of the two, I can't say I adore their new clothing choices however, but people change. Much like you and I both have.

  • The same thing can be applied to Panic that is applied to Fall Out Boy. People change. The band themselves have stated they are much more happier with Pretty.Odd. than they were with Fever. This album is deffinately more "true" in the musical sense. Teen angst doesn't last forever, you heard that with the transition of Take This To Your Grave to From Under the Cork Tree.
However, I do feel ridiculous for comparing Panic at the Disco to Fall Out Boy, but none the less; I feel this is the same situation. The fans are acting the same, the comments are relatively the same. I personally still love Panic at the Disco and Pretty. Odd. I'm glad they've taken this road. It was a cheeky move.

  • I agree. I miss the old panic. Like, there's only two songs I like from the new album being Northern Downpour and Nine In The Afternoon.

The last album was just so... scandalous ya know?

  • I agree with you.
When I first heard Panic!'s 'I Write Sins', I instantly loved it. The sound was so unique and no one had the sound. It was different then any music that was around then. The lyrics were so clever and shocking. You had to listen to the song over and over. They transition their Vegas sound into their music and it turned out to be something incredible. Then, people knew Panic! for their different, unique sound. Plus, the name was strange, random, and intriguing. No band had an '!' in their name.
When I heard that they dropped the '!' I was so disappointed and sad. And they changed their sound made my interest for the band lower. They changed their sound to sound something similar to the Beatles. And I was so angry. They had a complete distinctive sound and they changed it to sound like everything else. Pretty Odd. is okay, but a whole another Panic.
To me, Panic! At the Disco, and Panic At the Disco are two different bands.

  • I feel like Panic! At The Disco just wanted to try something new.
In their first CD they were trying to get out everything they could because, well to be 100% honest, if it didn't work out it could have been their last chance to do so. But their second album they had more flexibility.

  • I agree with what you say. Panic! at the disco was basically the first alternative band i really listened to and really loved. And i loved them because of AFYCSO. So it was kinda hard for me to come to terms with their new sound. I still love them, but i think they changed too much and i think they turned their back on what they were. they say they're still proud of it but they change the songs so much now when they play them, i'm not sure if they are...

  • I still prefer Pretty.Odd.
Their first was not that bad but I think they've changed to a better and more matured Panic.
Don't get me wrong, I just like the way their new songs makes me think about what they mean.
They are still an amazing band overall.
    :D

  • i went to the concert last night and i was pretty dissapointed that they had changed the tune and melodies to all their old songs so they would fit better with the type of music they played in the first album.

it was hard to sing along when you've been used to the original version for over two years.

  • i personally like both cds because u cant expect a band to have the same sound through their entire career. both cds were great in their own ways i mean take a look at avenged sevenfold their new cd is a lot more softer than their other cds but just as good. btw good luck on the whole hannah montana/jonas brothers thing

  • Their first album was SO much better. I don't like their new album at ALL. I previewed it off ITunes and i was very disappointed. It wasn't the good old Panic! (better with the !) that i fell in love with :(
    August 20th, 2008 at 04:37am
  • The first album was made in a rush by an angry bunch of teenagers. The second one is so beautifully made, just the instruments and the lyrics -sure their not about sex or whatever but I think they have more meaning to them then they let on, you just have to look deeper. They're beautiful and sweet and still get you thinking. I love both the albums but like Panic, I've matured in the last few years and I totally get their new sound. They're happier now, they want to show it in their music.

  • I've only heard a few songs off of the CD.

Panic had to go a different route with Pretty. Odd. though. If they didn't, Brendon would still sound like crap when you watch Live videos - or did you not notice that his voice cracked with every note.

AFYCSO way more editing than Pretty. Odd. and that's probably why Panic didn't sound as good Live.

Don't go saying anything bad about an album until you have an idea of why something may have been done.
