Spring Nicht

Spring Nicht The first view, from above, is the lead singer, Bill, climbing to the edge of the building. There is an eerie silence and an occasional cries from police sirens. The camera then rotates around the city, tall building bright in the night. When Bill finally stands on the edge, the music starts.

It's hard to decide which is more depressing, the video itself or the song. Everything in the video is a bit dark, from the fighting people to the robbing of a homeless man. The images are of a dark world, with a "What has the world come to?" ring to it. Oddly enough, it makes sense for Bill to jump, but the whole song is about him trying to stop someone from jumping, which is a little confusing.

As the video continues, it becomes apparent that there is more than one Bill. The one standing on the edge of the building never shifts his position until the end. The other one is singing the words to him, trying to prevent the suicide attempt. He eventually climbs the stairs to the roof, where the man is standing. This is when it is revealed that every Bill except the one that is at the edge doesn't exist.

In my own opinion, this video, through all of its confusion, is quite good. It is interesting and has a bit of a twist, and I watched it about twelve times straight. It is worth 4:08 minutes of your life. You can view it here.

While the ending has a bit of a mixed message, it still has the hope that lingers in Bill's voice throughout the song. The last line, "Dann spring ich für dich", which translates to "Then I'll jump for you", syncs perfectly and sounds incredibly meaningful. But despite the miniscule hints of hope, the ending of the video was a bit on the depressing side, because despite the last line, Bill still jumps off of the building.
