Green Day in Chicago

Green Day in Chicago July 13th many Green Day fans were buzzing around Chicago with excitement. Right outside the United Center was a bus parked. Not just any bus, but a bus that had the Green Day boys displayed on the sides of it. Before the venue opened their doors, there were curtious photographers take pictures of friends and family not to mention plenty of Green Day music was playing.

6:30 Rolled around, and the line curved around the building of people waiting to get in. Not to mention the security men in the enterance way metal detecting everyone. As always there was a way sneaking in digital cameras. Either sticking them behind beltbuckles or inside boots, no way the fans weren't going home with a little something to remember the day. Once going inside the merch stands were crowded with people jumping up and down trying to get a look at all the awesome looking tee shirts and hoodies. Better stock up on all these rare products, cause the internet doesn't sell what Green Day's merch workers are offering. Hands down best product that was purchasable was the 85 dollar hoodie. All black with yellow and red letters G & D on. On the back is the cover of Green Day's newest CD, 21st Century Breakdown. Also saying '21st Century Breakdown' underneath it, which was sewn on.

While we waited for the opening act, the Bravery to come out, there were huge Screens hooked up in the middle of the venue, hanging from the ceiling. Which allowed you to text a number and it would show your text/picture, and everyone one could see. There were many marrige proposels, and text reading 'Scream if you love Green Day!', so of course we all responded to them.

Finally the lights dimmed and the Bravery went on giving us a fantastic performance. They played a great set and teased the fans on not knowing when the boys would be coming out. After the Bravery left the set, the drunken pink bunny came out on stage to hangout for a while. He chugged beer, and made the right and left hand sides of the stage battle for who was the loudest. But finnally after he departed the stage, the lights turned off, and Green Day's song of the century played.

The boys emerged out of the darkness and started the show off with 21st Century Breakdown. There was a total of 24 songs played that night. Which included Song of the Century, 21st Century Breakdown, Know Your Enemy, Before the Lobotomy, East Jesus Nowhere, The Static Age, 21 Guns, American Eulogy, American Idiot, Jesus of Suburbia, Holiday, Boulivard of Broken Dreams, We Are the Waiting, St. Jimmy, Longview, Basketcase, She, Brainstew, Jaded, Hitchin' a Ride, Good Riddance, King For a Day, Shout, and Minority.

Throughout the performance there were squirt guns, confetti, toilet paper guns, and shirts being lonched into the crowd by a gun. There was a city lit up in lights, smoke, exposions, flames and even a shower of sparklers. As always Billie Joe was running across the stage, giving his 'Oh lay's.

What surprised me was there were many people pulled on stage. During East Jesus Nowhere, Billie Joe asked the crowd Who wants to be saved? and a little boy answered him. Billie performed a little churchly action and 'saved' him on stage. There was a battle between girls vs. boys on the song Longview. Which a hefty boy jumped on stage running around singing the first few verses. And a girl sang right afterwards, doing a lousy job a stage diving. In which Billie joe said "That was the worst stage dive I've ever seen". Also while playing Jesus of Suburbia a young boy was exepted on stage, after many failed attempts, to play the first part on guitar. (Which floored me cause I was stuck up in the second tear and knew how to play that part very well on guitar.) Before running off stage Billie gave him a little orange thing, which I still couldn't figure out what it was (maybe a backstage pass?) and Tre Cool running over unnoticed placing a drumstick in his back pocket. It's safe to say that I was glowing at the end of the concert.
