Yves Klein Blue

Yves Klein Blue Who says that only bad things come with a blast? This, certainly a good thing comes wrapped up in indie rock. This good thing comes off as brilliant and refreshing; it captures the musical minds of four "Down Unders"; four young artists from Brisbane - Michael Tomlinson, Charles Sale, Sean Cook and Chris Banham.

It was love of music that bonded schoolmates Tomlinson and guitarist Sale. Bassist Cook and drummer Banham jumped on the wagon and the four ventured into the world of music. Successfully.

"We all like certain styles of music, but it's impossible to be everything to everyone", says Sale. "As difficult as it may be to have a universal-reaching appeal, we want as many people to appreciate, or at least respond, to our music. We try to make music that more people want to enjoy. And you might not want to take a risk with it, but it creates a good result."

Catchy and refreshing indie rock beats fused with the familiar and playful band name were the ticket to the upcoming success. It'd be a shame not to mention the connection between the band's name and the French artist; Yves Klein; and the story behind it. It's obvious that they were named after the artist's something. And that's where the blue jumps in. Yves Klein Blue or shortly IKB, as it's known in art circles, is a famous blue paint that never fades away, that never loses its glam and shine. Linking it to the band, it's a metaphor for their effort and energy put into making music; making it higher and special so it keeps shining bright and positive in the upcoming times.

In 2008 they released their first EP, creatively called "Yves Klein Blue Draw Attention to Themselves". Certainly, they did draw the eyes of the public to themselves. Very fast. A year later, on June 26th, 2009, their debut album, "Ragged & Ecstatic" made the fans ecstatic. And ragged. The album captures life; the strains of trying to find your place under the Sun. But it also tells the story of chaos and uncertainty.

"I didn't want to have any throwaway lines; nothing that could discredit the intention of the lyric and nothing that would be unqualified", Tomlinson says.

From the catchy hit "Polka" to "Celebrity Death" you can feel their energy, fuzziness, at the same time their consciousness and a will to spread the horizons.
