Alice Cooper Sonisphere 2010

Amongst the flurry of drunken festival-goers enjoying their first night of metal mayhem were thousands of fans waiting for Alice Cooper to kick start the festival as the first headliner of the weekend. Pulling out all the stops for his Theatre of Death, he did just that. Opening and closing with the classic ‘School’s Out’ may have been a risky move, but it’s clear that the band held no concern as the crowd sung back the lyrics just as enthusiastically for a second time.

For audience members who weren’t quite sure of what the Theatre of Death entails, the show may have seemed a little like an over the top horror show musical, yet for those who knew exactly what to expect, it could well have been the best show of their lives. Although it’s no secret that Alice Cooper’s dramatic stage antics do not appeal to everyone, the gore fest in which Alice died four times during the set surely appealed to the masses of metal fans crowded around the Saturn Stage at Knebworth.

With the set list including obvious classics with the likes of 'Poison' and 'Be My Frankenstein', as well as the lesser known 'Cold Ethyl' and 'I Never Cry', it would be near impossible for anybody to say that the show was not enjoyable, even if they were not a fan of the well-known theatrics. The set list, in addition to the show, was clearly very well thought out and executed perfectly.

Despite the band being over 40 years old and the lead singer being over 60, Alice Cooper’s Theatre of Death will never get old. With fans ranging from 15 to 50, it isn’t hard to imagine the band still filling stadiums in years to come. If there’s anything that you can expect from going to see Alice Cooper live, it’s that the show will be dramatically amazing and the audience, no matter how old, will be singing there way throughout the whole show.
