The Beatles: A Teenage Girl's Unpopular Opinion

I grew up listening to The Beatles. I remember waking up to the house playing Help or Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds while my parents did chores. They were the first ever band I knew of. That was in preschool and kindergarden. They have not left my heart since.

I like to think of The Beatles as the base of all modern music. Countless bands have inspiration to their music that tracks back to The Beatles. They were one of the first ones to break out of the shell, go against what many people thought of as trash, and did what they wanted. Back in the 1950s, that was a big deal.

The Beatles gained international stardom and toured almost nonstop. They had major people perform with them. Eric Clapton was the guest guitarist in While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Their music revolutionized music and entertainment for years to come. Without them, we probably wouldn't have Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Miss May I, Modest Mouse, Blink-182, and many more.

The lyrical genius was, the majority of the time, Sir Paul McCartney. Many of the songs belonging to The Beatles sound really weird. Some dare say trippy. They're right. It sounds as if they were high when they wrote some songs. They probably were. But I Am The Walrus? How can you listen to that and NOT at least smile?

The Beatles broke up in 1970. While they only really released songs from 1966-1970, the band had been ongoing since the 1950s. Afterwards, they all went to their solo missions. I'm sure you all have heard of John Lennon. Guitarist/singer/songwriter from The Beatles. Best known for his solo song Imagine. Lennon was a fantastic musician, artist, and peace activist. Sadly, though, his life ended December 8, 1980. He was shot.

George Harrison continued to do a bit of solo, but he was also busy writing a book called I Me Mine. I Me Mine was the last song they publicly performed as a band on the rooftop concert. This book is about the life of George Harrison. I highly recommend it. Harrison died November 29, 2001 due to cancer.

Richard Starky, commonly referred to as Ringo Starr or the dummer in the back with that adorable little head bob, now plays solo. He has a few more records out. He has been in one non-major band since The Beatles and is by far my favorite. Even though he kinda looks like a creeper now, he's amazing. Thankfully, he is still alive.

Last but definitely least is Sir Paul McCartney. McCartney was the lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist of the fantastic four. After The Beatles broke up, he was in a band called Wings, and after that released an amazing solo album. Despite what some may believe due to a conspiracy, McCartney is still alive and well. In fact, a little over a year ago, I had the honors of seeing him in concert and let me tell you this. McCartney has more energy on stage then I will ever have.

So all in all, The Beatles have never left me and never will. They were the change of music, and the change of the way people think now. Without them, I don't know where we would be.
