The Godfathers of Punk Rock

You've heard of them. Everyone's heard of them. Their songs occupy the punk and alternative stations on your radio. Their faces appear in music stores and on the covers of magazines They're even being advertised on Mibba. Everyplace you look, you're likely to find something that belongs to them.

Guess who? Green Day, the godfathers of punk rock.

Since the year 1987, in which they formed the band, Green Day has been relentlessly writing and releasing new records, from their first album, 39/Smooth of '90 to the "punchy, power-pop" sound of ¡Uno! of 2012.

In 1992, their second studio album, Kerplunk, was released, selling over 50,000 copies in the U.S. alone.

But, their real success was not to be found until the release their album, Dookie, with hit singles "Longview", "When I Come Around", "Basket Case", a re-recorded "Welcome to Paradise", and "She". The album sold 16 million copies worldwide, and in 2003, Dookie was ranked 193 on Rolling Stone's "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

In 1995, a single for the motion picture Angus entitled "J.A.R." was released, debuting at #1 on the Billboard "Modern Rock Tracks" chart.

Closely following "J.A.R."'s success came the fourth studio album, Insomniac, featuring the four singles "Geek Stink Breath", "Stuck With Me", "Brain Stew/Jaded", and "Walking Contradiction".

Several years and nine total albums later, having brought into our lives The Jesus of Suburbia and Whatsername, Christian and Gloria, and the catchy beats of well-known songs such as "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", possibly their most known track, Green Day can sit back and listen to their newest album ¡Uno!, part one of a trilogy entitled ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡TrĂ©! The first single from ¡Uno!, "Oh Love" hit airwaves on July 16, 2012. In fact, if you're observant enough, you may see advertisements around Mibba for the pre-order of the album on iTunes.
