Flyleaf's "New Horizons"

Flyleaf’s newly released single “New Horizons” was shared by Flyleaf via Facebook on August 1st, giving Flyleaf fans a taste of what’s to come from their new album, which also happens to share the same name as their single. Seen as a follow up to Flyleaf’s 2009 album, Momento Mori, this will be Flyleaf’s third released album.

“New Horizons” depicts a sense of starting over with happy sounding melodies and rhythms. The song is accompanied by Lacey Strum’s loveable voice, with lyrics that would portray a person embarking on a new beginning. Certain lyrics such as ”Bring your normal seas to the edge and watch it drown in new horizons” and ”There’s no such thing as time inside this moment, no sun rising" the song carries a fun and inspirational tune for people to take a different attitude on life, and who are looking to turn over a new leaf.

Ultimately, I think the song does a good job of representing a sense of hope, and the idea of living in the moment, instead of worrying about the future. The feeling I got from the song was almost a salute to people who enjoy the present and not to worry so much about dying. We often hear that life is short, so appreciate the time you have. “New Horizons”, to me, seems to take a different approach on the saying, rather signifying not to worry about time. That time is actually endless if you make it that way.

Overall, I am pleased with band’s new single and am sure the new album will do another fantastic job, just as their previous albums had. Flyleaf is well known for their inspirational lyrics and thoughts, which ultimately leave you feeling a little more optimistic about life. Having been an avid Flyleaf fan for quite some time, I’m sure the new album will be excellent.

While there is currently there is no set release date for the album, New Horizons is expected to arrive in the fall.
