Cage the Elephant Can't Be Caged

Cage the Elephant wasn't a well known band for almost three years after their initial beginning, only garnering recognition in 2009 after the release of their self-titled album which heralded the beginning of a new chapter for the band. Songs like "Ain't no Rest for the Wicked" and "In One Ear" earned spots on charts in both America and the UK, although a much higher spot in the UK, gave the band something that they had not experienced until then: a captivated audience waiting for more.

Their music has been branded as funk-punk and both alternative and regular rock; which suit the music perfectly. The first album, Cage the Elephant, was an angry album. Band members were quoted in a few interviews as saying that when the songs were written they were angry at the world, so that transferred into the music as much as possible.

But in 2011 the album Thank You Happy Birthday was recieved with mixed reviews even from the band's avid fans. With less anger, this album was more of a truth-be-told tell-all that left some fans wanting more of the beginning, but that's not what Cage the Elephant wanted to portray. According to band members, they purposfully worked to not stick to one style for too long, to stay true to the identity that they had worked so hard to create in the beginning.

Although the band is currently on tour, they haven't said no to a third album, actually talking about the different inspirations each band member draws from and hopes of an even bigger, badder, more true third album as their popularity climbs back to where it was when "Ain't no Rest for the Wicked" played on game consoles everywhere (due to it's inclusion in the game Borderlands).
