The Differing Opinions on Stephenie Meyer - Comments

• i am a twilight fan but an not completely obsessed with it. but i was a fan before the last two books ever came out and i think that people who say they like it just because everyone else does are stupid and need to get there own opinion. i think people that obsess over the people who play the characters need a life, don't watch a movie pick up a book and learn about the character before they obsess over them.

• i'm middle ground also. I'm just not that into vampires that sparkle yet i have re-read the book over and over again yet now that it's become so big I don't quite enjoy it so much. I just get annoyed with the constant over exaggerations of the book. Sure it was good but it agitates me when it's all people can find a common ground on or talk about.

• Even when I first read Twilight, before the "fans" showed up, I have been on the middle ground. To say that I hate the books, would be wrong. To say that I would like to read them again real soon, would also be a lie.
I think that the thing that I didn't like about it really had nothing to do with the books themselves. It was the people who read those books and how they "used" them that made me feel as though I didn't like them. When, in all honesty, they're okay and it is/was the people that made me feel that way. I guess the thing that started the entire thing was when I was in the hallway of my school and there was this girl having a fight with her boyfriend and she said "Why can't you be a better boyfriend like Edward?" With that, she stormed off.
Now, I know this doesn't happen everywhere, but seriously? Edward has his flaws, yes, but he is still a vampire and a character in a fictional book. I guess one of the other things that I didn't like was that they ("They" being the advertising people once they realised the book was becoming popular) started to show Twilight as a "family book" like they had done with the Harry Potter series. Granted, I am also one ot believe that "kids" are growing up to fast these days, but girls in the fifth grade should really not be reading these books. Unlike Twilight, which I feel started off as a young adult book, Harry Potter increased the maturity level slowly throughout the books because of the ages of the characters and the challenges that they faced. So, yes, we are out here. I'm completely with you.

• Haven't read Twilight in a long time but I remember some parts of it.
The reason why Bella is such a klutz cause of her encounter with Edward. Fate is against her cause she just dodged death right there and again and again cause of Edward. Am I right or am I right? xD

• not to say that on several occasions the twilight saga has become my guilty pleasure and I read it with all the joy of a fangirl.
just to add to what is written below

• I'm a middle grounder.
While i think that the characters are 2D and everything is so entirely predictable, Twilight has this way of making you see love in a different light. And since Edward is a vampire, it is truly everlasting love.
While I also think he is possesive and Bella completly falls off her rocker, and Stephanie Meyer has discredited the true vampire myth about blood drinking and low morals and the fear we mortals have towards them with this vision of a vampire family with a high moral standing.
And secondly, I am a resident of Washington State. I used to vacation in Forks, because i loved the seclusion and beauty of the flora and fauna. I do not go their anymore, for the Twiligh phenomena has turned it into a tourist town for fanatics, with tours showing you where Bella "lived", and places from the book.
Twilight will never ever be on the same level as Harry Potter. Harry Potter was the book that made me start reading, and they have a special spot on my shelf. And while some people detest the movies for creating the craziness over the "smexy" characters, I like being able to see the book (some of it anyway) played out and visualized. Its an extra treat.
(Then to say, Twilight the movie was not that great, not at all)

• OK... Yes I've read te books more then once. yes i've seen the movie more then once. I used to obsess.. maybe. but i find that even speaking of the twilight saga
has become entirely overrated. I now love the House of Night Novels...
Which in my opinion is a mix of Twilight and Harry Potter. So agreeing with most..
I'm middle ground as well.

• *shrugs* I'm middle ground too. I've read Twilight, then put it away. Didn't love it and didn't loathe it. But I can see where both sides of the argument are coming from. It's nice to hear an article from someone who is neutral XD

• I guess I'm middle ground.

But Harry Potter is better. =P

And I'm not just obsessed because it was a movie. Harry Potter saved me when I was eight years old from leaving my dearest friends on the planet. It saved me from having to think about moving, and I've always loved it and the message.

• I'm middle ground, then. I don't obsess--but I don't loathe her, or her writing.

• I'm a middle grounder - I looked up Twilight on Amazon, and got bored reading the description. However, since I haven't even read it, I'm not going to make a judgement and I can recognise why people were screaming outside my local WH Smiths when the fourth came out - they liked the book. Supernatural romance doesn't come better than Kresley Cole, so light-and-fluffy teen fic doesn't really do it for me. Besides the fact that you can find (and read) the entire series for free on wiki. Haha.
Ps. Is it just me or does Robert Pattison look a bit gormless ... I always imagined Edward blonde (before I read it).

I personally think the Twilight series is getting overrated since the movie is coming out, I have a friend who asked if I read the series, I just answered her saying I read the first page of the first book, and gave up, it wasn't captivating, and the writing to me personally couldn't compare to ym favorite author, Sarra Manning, but you don't see anyone obsessing over Manning. The reaosn why people are obsessed with the sega [and harry potter] is because it was made into a movie. Thats the best thing I can really say for this article.

• I agree with Grasping.At.Pearls, Twilight has this plot line that will take your mind off of everything else but the book. And I am too a middle grounder now since I seeing more of the pros and cons of the book, and respecting it the best way I can to the author and the series itself, since it does lure more people to read in this high-tech place called Earth.

• In all honesty, Meyer's writing is not some of the best of seen, not even close. But there is something about the plotline and the concepts that just suck you into Twilight. I personally am a huge fan of the book, all the while knowing that as a student of literature and a writer that I shouldn't be; Meyer is something of a shoddy J.K. Rowling, to be honest. Yet Twilight is captivating. Weird.

• Sorry, not a middle grounder. I really love the series. But I see where you're coming from, especially with there are more girls reading the series than guys. I guess they don't like that Bella is a klutz, especially with it being so popular now.
But seriously, who hasn't tripped over nothing? I have many times, though I've not made it all the way to the ground, yet.

• I love Twilight, but I really hate Bella.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:34am
• I am not against her, I respect her as a writer, but I do not like that series. To be honest, most of my friends have tried to get me to read at least, the whole of the first book. I just can't bring myself to do, especially when I guessed the whole plotline of the whole series right on the dot. I respect the writer, but not the Twilight series. At the same time, I have no problem with the ones who do like the series as long as they stop trying to get me to read it. I have other books I like to read. :)

• Good point!
I'm a Twilight fanatic, but I read enough to know that her writing style isn't great. I think it's the storyline and the way she's put the book together that makes it so obsessable.

• Nice article. = )

Bella seems like a complete Mary Sue from what I can gather. If it's entertaining then I'm happy people liked reading it although I believe it takes more than giving a character the odd 'quirky' flaw to make them realistic and 'human'.

• Feminist thinks because you're in love you're an anti-feminist? I find the book series entertaining. It's no where near a lot of stuff, but I still think it's good. So, what I'm clumsy, doesn't mean I'm a damsel and distress, and my parents think about each other constantly, so is there' anything wrong with that.
