The Gunslinger

The Gunslinger The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed. The first sentence of this book leaves the reader with the expectations of the novel and the rest of the epic series to follow.

Like many fantasy novels, the tale is set in a different world (which resembles the old west) which has “moved on”. The gunslinger, Roland of Gilead, is traveling through this world, pursuing the mysterious man in black to find out about the mysterious Dark Tower he seeks. The character of Roland is one of mystery; during the novel only slight details of his past are revealed through flashbacks; including the tale of what happened in the small town at Tull and about Roland’s life at Gilead with his companion Cuthbert and his teacher Cort.

Halfway through the novel, Roland stops at a way station, it is here the story begins to pick up when he meets Jake chambers, a boy from New York who lived and died in our universe. Jake and Roland continue Roland’s perilous journey together. Roland rescues Jake from an encounter with an oracle then couples with the oracle himself in order to learn more about his tower. Whilst traveling through the mountain Jake’s trust for Roland begins to falter after an attack by slow mutants; this gives a sense of what is to come, and it does, Roland betrays Jake Chambers and follows the man in black, who tells Roland what is to become of him.

This book is honestly the best thing I’ve ever read, my review did this no justice, I highly suggest everybody reads this, I really do.
