Watchmen

Watchmen A series of comic books first released from 1986-1987, Watchmen has been regarded as one of the finest graphic novels ever written. Written by Alan Moore (V For Vendetta) and drawn by Dave Gibbons, Watchmen is nothing short of a modern day classic.

The novel revolves around costumed vigilantes, both retired and outlawed, in an alternative future, as the United States looms towards the threat of nuclear war.

The book begins with the murder of The Comedian, a crass costumed hero who had been working for the government. As another vigilante, Rorshach, who is working despite the Keene Act (outlawing of costumed vigilantes) informs fellow retired vigilantes of the news, he attempts to discover reasons behind The Comedian's death, such as who he was and why he was murdered.

By doing this, Rorshash and the other characters (such as superhuman Dr. Manhatten and reluctant vigilante Silk Spectre II) discover a much deeper plot against not only costumed vigilantes, but of the city of New York itself.

Watchmen is an enticing, thrilling novel which even the most critical of skeptics take their hats off to. As a movie for the Watchmen is in the works, all we can do is hope that it lives up to the masterpiece it is based off of.
