Heavier Than Heaven - Kurt Cobain's Biography

Heavier Than Heaven - Kurt Cobain's Biography This one of my all time favorite books written by Charles R. Cross. Now even when it is Kurt Cobain's biography, it's really well written, it's not a study book as most biographies.

This book shows you his life, just as it was - no prejudices. From page one it traps you with its amazing, quite simple descriptions. The author does no tries to change your image of Kurt Cobain. He merely gives you a full story of Kurt's life. From his childhood, to his suicide (everyone has theories but facts still maintain that it was suicide) passing through his days in Olympia, Nirvana and his addiction.

You don't need to be a Nirvana fan, or Kurt fan to really enjoy this book. Charles made a spectacular research and this book, tells almost day by day Kurt's life. One of the best things about this book is that, Charles was a fan, not a friend, not from family, nothing else, so his personal feeling almost never influenced his writing. He tells a story with no verdict.

For some knowing the end, might be boring. But the amazing is what happens between, his birth and his death. Everything which leads to the end of his life. Anecdotes and stories that make very clear how perturbed he was.

Here you can see the whole story. You hear it from Kurt's own words, from friends, from family, from fans, from strangers. This book will make you deeply understand him, his addiction, his marriage, his childhood. And most his beautiful mind. It's a story told from all the perspectives, from all the points of view, which makes it the most complete. There are parts when the book turns really hard to read, most when you realize how low someone can fall and how similar you can be to him. You may hate him, you may love him, that doesn't matter. In the end this book just gives you his life, for you to understand.

An advice: Do not judge until you finish it.

For the fans: You'll love it, but you might get a big disillusion, if you don't keep in mind that heroes do not exist.

For the rest: If you felt indifferent about him, you will change your mind. If you love him or hate him, you should really read this, and see what you think in the end.
