Mossflower

Mossflower The award winning Mossflower was originally published in 1988. The second book in the Redwall saga is a thrilling tale explores the origination of the Abbey and Martin’s legendary sword.

The story involves Tsarmina Greeneyes, murdering her father in their fortress home of Kotir and imprisoning her brother, Gingivere for her crimes. The tyrannical wildcat then leads an assault against the woodland rebellion which is fronted mainly by Martin the Warrior, a prisoner who escaped her imprisonment with Gonff the mouse thief. The novel also involves Martin, Gonff and Dinny the mole journeying to Salamandastron, the legendary mountain of badgers and hares as well as the founding of Redwall Abbey and a host of amazing characters ranging from Martin himself through to the temperamental badger Boar the Fighter, his daughter Bella of Brockhall, two mischievous young hedgehogs, Ferdy and Coggs as well as Mask, an otter of many disguises.

Mossflower is a wonderful adventure to read, I honestly had trouble putting it down, though when attempting to read it at a young age I struggled through the journey to Salamandastron, unless you’re a patient reader, I wouldn’t advise this book. Though other than the journey, Martin’s arrival in Mossflower, the fall of Kotir and events like Ferdy and Coggs being captured and plotlines involving Tsarmina going mad were amazing.

Much like Redwall, I implore everyone to read this book.
