Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star

Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star I read the Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx because I loved both, Mötley Crüe and Sixx.A.M. and because the topic written has always been one that stood out to me. As a fan I was confidant that I would enjoy the book but instead, I fell in love with the book.

The Heroin Dairies consists of Nikki’s old diaries from the 80’s when he was addicted to heroin and suffering depression. It also includes comments from friends, family, and those that were a part of Mötley in the 80’s. Those comments made the book all the more real as you see how his family, friends, and acquaintances responded to how he felt. Throughout the book his mother left comments talking about his grandparents while his grandpa wrote back. You can tell there are still sore spots and you realize just how real those sore spots were and still are today.

In the book it travels more than just drug use and Nikki’s bad trips. He speaks of his feelings of abandonment from his father and mother as well as his perfectionist ways of struggling to improve Mötley to be the best band in the world. The feelings and his will to be on the top constantly clash with his on and off (mostly on) addiction.

Many copies of the book sold with the Sixx A.M. CD which includes music tracks about the rock star’s feelings, thoughts, and occurrences when he was using and trying to quit. The songs words come from the text and bring more emotion to the story of the shattered rock star’s life. If you are not a reader you can still hear the CD by purchasing it from a local music store.

The book is an inspiration for those suffering; whether it is from heroin or any other drug or just a type of depression or lost memories of dysfunctional homes. The Heroin Diaries is something that should be read. It’s not just about a rich, spoiled, rock star. It’s about addiction, depression, suffering, and a way to get better, and seeing as many people suffering now from various addictions and depression, it’s one of the many books upon this subject that should be read whether it’s for insight or inspiration.

Today Nikki is touring with Mötley Crüe again in the Crüe Fest 2 tour along with Godsmack, Drowning Pool, Theory of a Deadman, and Charm City Devils. He is also currently dating Kat Von D, she has a television show called L.A. Ink where you can see her and her colleagues doing beautiful tattoo pieces. Nikki is also sober and clean of all drugs and alcohol.
