Snuff by Chuck Palahniuk

Snuff by Chuck Palahniuk Snuff, released on May 20 in 2008 and written by Chuck Palahniuk, follows the story of Mr. 72, Mr. 137, Mr. 600 and Sheila. All four narrators play a part in Cassie Wright's plan to top her career as a porn star by breaking the world record for serial fornication on film.

Six hundred men wait in a vast hall in their underpants, going through unhealthy amounts of junk food and Viagra as they wait for their turn with the aging porn star.

Throughout the entire book there is a running gag about porn film titles. While some are worthy of a proper giggle, others don't even attempt to be funny or clever.

Mr. 72 was humiliated by his step mum after being found masturbating over images of Cassie Wright when she cried "That's your birth mother!" Mr. 72 is in the queue with 599 other guys who want to have sex with Cassie Wright, his supposed mother. He titles himself as a 'porn baby' and his goal is to get infront of that camera and find out if Cassie Wright is really his mother.

Mr. 600 is the aged porn star who shares a history with Cassie Wright, and is alleged to be the man who get her pregnant.

Mr. 137 is a former TV star whose career went downhill after it was revealed he once performed in a gay porn film. He is hoping to regain his fame by appearing in Cassie Wright's last porno.

Sheila is the stage manager, and personal assistant to Cassie Wright. She provides us with an insight to the real Cassie Wright, without the cameras and the action.

Although Snuff is barely over 250 pages long, it's jam packed with taboo and facts on the real pornography industry. The twist at the end was inevitable but, I admit, I wasn't expecting it.

Snuff isn't one of my favourite novels by Chuck Palahniuk, but it's certainly a great read. It's worth reading to the very end.
