The Catcher In The Rye

The Catcher In The Rye "If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth."

Sixteen-year-old, Holden Caulfield, attends Pencey Prep until he fails out of it a few weeks before Christmas Vacation. After he fails out, he decides to venture throughout New York City to prevent his parents from knowing he is kicked out. But, in New York City, he becomes very lonesome, seeing he always had someone to talk to at Pencey, and needs someone to share the same agreements with. Unfortunately, the only person that can do that is his younger sister, Phoebe, but he can't do so unless he wants his parents to find out he has failed out of school.

Holden attempts to sneak in his house and visit Phoebe, but he is only greeted with her utter disappointment when she finds out he failed, leaving him feel betrayed.

Holden decides to create a new identity and pretend to be a deaf/mute person who does not need to communicate with the outside world. His attempts fail, so he decides to change his mind and rejoins his family.

Some time later, he enters into an institution where he tells his amazing story of adolescence, alienation, and failure.
