Book of Belgariad

Book of Belgariad The story begins with the recovery of the ancient Orb of Adlur, and the coming of age of Garion, an orphaned Farmboy. The prologue describes brief concerns with the past, beginning with the creation of the world by the 7 Gods. Alder was one of the seven Gods, and crafted an orb of stone, with a living soul. This orb was known as the orb of Alder. One of the Gods, Torak forcefully took the orb and attempted to make it do his will; But it retaliated and burned out his left eye in the process. It is then later recovered by King Cherak, Belgareth the sorcerer and his children. King Chereks young son, Riva, is able to hold the stone without being consumed by its fire, and so it was guarded to make sure Torak would not take dominion over the world.

Garion is an innocent young boy living on a farm with his aunt Pol; Through life and death situations, he, his aunt Pol, The mysterious story teller, and a young man named Durnik, face all to return the Orb to its rightful place of existence, after being taken once again.
Garian proves himself uniquely useful and shows his great potential, by revealing to the Monarchs, the green cloaked spy.

This book is insanely structured; almost as if writing about something that really happened, David Eddings wrote something short of a masterpiece beginning with this first book. My father comments, "These were the only books I ever read cover to cover, and actually enjoyed thoroughly."

Appealing more-so to the older group, Pawn of Prophecy is a promising page turner, consuming you into Garions world of thieving and mischief. I admit this book to the fantasy-D&D-Runescape-Dragons-Fairy lovers out there, waiting for something to chew on! (No, not literally.)

My rating is a 5/5
