The Tenth Circle

The Tenth Circle Anyone who has read, or even heard about Dante's Inferno knows that hell is a scary place. The nine circles of hell hold cruel punishments for sins ranging from adultery to betrayal. Laura Stone has built her career around this very work of literature. She has studied every aspect of it, analyzed every word. She never imagined that her life would fold in around her as she fell into a hell of her own.

Laura's husband, Daniel, is a comic book artist who spends most of his time parenting their teenage daughter, Trixie. Trixie is the very definition of perfection in Daniels eyes. However, Trixie is no exception to the many teenagers hiding secret lives from their parents. Self mutilation, alcohol and partying are slowly deteriorating the cheerful person she used to be, before her boyfriend broke up with her.

Jodi Picoult has captured the raw emotion of teenage angst perfectly in this addictive novel. Her vivid descriptions cause you to slip in what feels like a dream as you explore the novel page by page searching for the epic conclusion. Her writing manages to be dramatic, but not cliché; emotional, but not sappy. More so than any of her other books, this novel truly shows what a literary genius Jodi Picoult is.

As Laura and Daniel's marriage is crippled by an affair, their lives slowly crumble. More complications occur when Trixie is the victim of rape. The investigation of the crime reveals more about the Stone family's character than the actual crime they're investigating. Trixie never imagined just how horrific her life could become in a matter of minutes. As the mystery and lies that make up their lives unfold, they fall into what seems to be the tenth circle of hell.
