Someone Like You is a Sarah Dessen novel that takes us through the mind of Halley, a teenager going through just your typical problems. Her mother's a psychologist who constantly asks her with questions, and her father is your typical neighborhood man. She's quiet, and is nothing without her best friend, Scarlett Thomas, the most outgoing person she can hang out with.

But when Scarlett's boyfriend Michael dies in a motorcycle accident at the end of the summer, the two are left in distress. And as the wake goes through and school begins, they start to meet new people, they meet Macon, the troublemaking, rich best friend of Michael, who's master of the "Jedi Mind Trick" and trying to win over Halley's heart. And of course, there's Cameron Newton, an artist who spent the last five years and France and has an eye for making beautiful sculptures and capturing the heart.

But when the sadness begins to pass, they find out something surprising: Scarlett's pregnant, with Michael's baby.

And Halley and Scarlett have their ups and downs with their relationship, and Hally begins to get into more and more trouble with Macon and crowd, she begins to realize how much she really needs to rely on the people around her, and just how ugly the world can be.

And when the relationship is at its ups and Scarlett really needs Halley the most, will she be able to be strong enough for the sake of her best friend and late boyfriend's child?
