The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is an incredible novel that quickly took the world by storm. The first book turned into a trilogy, which was followed by Catching Fire and then Mockingjay. The first installment of the series was published in 2008, and the movie adaptation was released just 4 years later, in 2012. It's not difficult to see how the novel gained popularity so quickly with the incredible and unique story it contains inside.

This book, which is unlike any other I have read, details the story of Katniss Everdeen, a young girl who lives in a dystopian universe. In her society, Panem, citizens ages 12-18 are chosen every year through a lottery to compete in the Hunger Games, an event which puts 24 young people in an arena to fight to the death.

It's Katniss's last year to have her name in the pool, and she just hopes that she and her close friend, Gale, can make it through this one last time. Her younger sister, Prim, only has her name in the pool once, so it doesn't even occur to Katniss to be worried for her sister, though she soon realizes that may not have been the case.

The novel contains many different aspects to pull readers in, including a steamy love triangle, intense action and fiery characters. It is an excellent read for anyone who is mature enough to handle it, and I highly recommend this wonderful book.
