Betrayed

Betrayed In Betrayed, Zoey, a fledgling vampire, is finally settled in at the House of Night finishing school. She has a group of amazing friends - Stevie Rae, Damien, Erin, Shaunee and Erik, who is her sort-of boyfriend. Zoey has been named the leader of the Dark Daughters-a group formerly lead by 'evil hag from hell' Aphrodite - after showing an affinity for all five elements and saving her friends from evil spirits Aphrodite released.

The book starts with Zoey anguishing over parent visitation day, since her parents have made their discontent with her living at the House of Night very known. Her mother has been brainwashed into a different person by her new husband, John Heffer. John believes that Zoey is affiliated with the devil because she banished some ghosts back to where they live (or unlive?) and earned a few new tattoos in addition to the crescent shaped Mark on her forehead - sapphire swirls framing her face, and matching Marks with rune line symbols on her shoulders, something no fledgling or vamp has ever had.

Zoey is busy planning her first ritual as leader of the Dark Daughters when she meets Loren Blake, Vampire Poet Laureate who is distractingly, heart-stoppingly beautiful, and seems to take a special interest in Zoey. But there is the matter of Loren being a professor at the school, and Zoey's sort of boyfriend, Erik. Just when Zoey thinks she's got enough to deal with, the unthinkable happens - human teenagers are being killed, and it seems someone is trying to pin the crime on the House of Night. Zoey's unique powers are starting to threaten the ones she loves, and when she needs her friends the absolute most, tragedy hits the House of Night. Now it's up to Zoey to be courageous and face a reality that could break her heart, soul, and completely rearrange her entire world.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes vampire stories. There's a bit of foul language, and some fairly steamy scenes, but it makes an excellent sequel to Marked. The third book in the series, Chosen, was released in March.
