Darkly Dreaming Dexter

His given name is Dexter Morgan. He is Miami's undercover serial killer. His excitement to kill is driven by his "Dark Passenger" and he cannot control himself. Within every full moon, that sensation and wanting to kill drives him to the edge. It's within every full moon when Dexter can't help but to unleash that beast inside him, which he calls the "Dark Passenger". The only difference between Dexter and any other crazy killer is that he killed bad people. He keeps one drop of his victim's blood to revive that moment in which he killed them.

Jeff Lindsay, the author, makes Dexter a criminal, but also a hero in Darkly Dreaming Dexter. Through the eyes of Dexter, we see how he lives day by day as a blood splatter specialist for the Miami Police Department and an undercover killer. He is funny, charming, and attractive which most of the time cover up his secret life.

Dexter was raised by his foster father Harry Morgan. Harry was a cop and even before Dexter knew this, he was well aware of what lay inside Dexter. He taught him how not leave any evident clues that could blame him in a crime. Harry also taught Dexter to only kill those who truly deserved it.

Nevertheless, when another serial killer begins to murder local prostitutes, it keeps Dexter on his toes. The bodies are left cut into chunks of neat and bloodless pieces. This new killer leaves clues, which only Dexter seems to understand. The places these bodies are left trigger memories in Dexter. Will it be too late when he finally realizes that this killer wants something personal with him? All the clues, the places, and old memories involving Dexter might be strong enough to even make him a suspect in the past butcheries.
