The Sims 3: Ambitions

Many of us have probably wondered what goes on behind the scenes of our Sims' work day. Do they work themselves to the bone, argue with their boss, or just slack of like I'm sure many of us do? Thanks to The Sims 3: Ambitions you can scrap those days of simple Sim life.

Daily tasks integrate controllable action with the professions of eccentric inventors and daring ghost hunters, or you can try your hand in the skillfulness needed to be a world-class surgeon. This expansion also brings in a few new hobbies, such as sculpting and tattooing, the lush town of Twinbrook, and many other small features. The younger Sim community, of course, isn't left out! Children may now hold bake sales to make a few extra simoleons.

Ambitions isn't just careers and skills though. The game includes new natural disasters and death possibilities: earthquakes and death-by-meteor. A new vehicle option, the motorcycle, has been added for your rough n' tough Sims, allowing them to run around town and the bayou with no trouble at all. If that wasn't it, to make your Sim life more realistic a laundry feature has been added, down to the last drier sheet.

However, as always, The Sims expansions can be costly on your wallet and your memory. Depending on your hardware the system requirements can run with the following:

  • For Windows Vista and Newer
  • 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
  • 1.5 GB RAM
  • 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
  • Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1
  • At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games

The game also included a few bugs that came up with or without patches. They're easy to get around, but can be a hassle for those who don't want to mess with extra files. Some parts of game play can be confusing as well, such as the fact that there is no real "tattoo artist career", only a hidden skill. Tattoo artists, in Sim reality, is a subcategory of the stylist profession and must be learned on your own.

The Sims 3: Ambitions can be aptly described as an interesting addition to The Sims 3 world, and can make typical life a little less dull. Getting passed the few bugs and hardships are easy enough not to get in your way, and the extra features definitely add a realism (and fantasy) factor to game play. If you're tired of picking up a newspaper and knowing what to expect then add this on your to-get list.
