Dead Island

Dead Island is an action-horror role play game that was developed by Techland. It follows the line of a first person point of view and is based solely on melee or hand-to-hand combat with an infested island resort that brews with nothing more than the undead.

Your character experiences, learns, and gains combat skills and what not throughout the course of the game itself. Most of these can be earned by completing a numerous amount of quests from A.I's that aren't immune to the virus as your character is.

Zombies in this game vary from the typical walking dead to the mutated, advanced, and powerful ones.

Overall

What pulled me into buying this game was the cover itself. As I am a big fan of the Left 4 Dead series, I was hoping for something along the lines of that plot when getting Dead Island. What I've come to find are my personal likes and dislikes.

I haven't played an open-world roleplay game in my time up until this point and I will admit, it was hard to get used to at first. Dead Island has a lot of twist and turns and it's hard to narrow down exactly where to start especially if you aren't familiar with the genre as well.

The characters are very selected and I wish there was a wider variety, but all in all, the characters that are playable do make a bigger part of the story line itself and it's amazing to see the development of each being individually.

The chapters and acts in this game are very long and at times I loved it and hated it. The quests could be very fun and difficult, giving the player a chance to think outside of the box; or they could be rather overwhelming and can get tiring after a period of time.

One major thing that I didn't like was the lack of co-op play and the fact that the quests that you were given were made for you as the player to go solely on your own without a helping hand. It was a bit cliche and played out as you are the being who is unable to get infected, but if it was designed and shown in a possibly different way, it would have been more tolerable.

The storyline was something I absolutely fell in love with and though it took quite a while to finish the game, I honestly thought it was worth it all. I recommend this game to all the zombie lovers out there and also advise you to not to skip through the cutscenes. They're rather interesting and helps understand the plot much more easily, especially since the majority of zombie games and movies don't have a plot at all.
