Watchmen

Watchmen For months now, people have been highly anticipating the movie Watchmen, including myself. When I went to the theater Saturday night, it was crowded with people chattering excitedly. I speak for just about all of us when I say that we were severely disappointed.

There are many reasons why the movie was a failure, primarily because it was confusing and simply boring. Even though the trailers were exciting and provocative, the actual movie never explained most of the plot, nor did it give the viewer the chance to infer what the actors meant by just about anything. And to think, this was almost a three hour movie!

Second, the effects were frankly terrible. Action throughout the film was so obviously staged it wasn't even funny. Hands went through walls without getting scratched, bodies soared through high-rise windows with ease, and blood poured out wounds like water flows out of fountains. People threw hits at one another like bullets soar out of a machine gun. To me, it seemed as if the action belonged in a cartoon, not a Hollywood movie.

Another reason was that the acting and writing were substandard. There was probably a total of three good lines the entire movie. The script had potential, but either the timing was off, the acting mangled it, or it didn't convey any information that would have been beneficial to the viewer. Moreover, the "sex" scenes were painful to watch. It seemes as if the director was trying to either parody porn, or was trying to mimic it.

Finally, (though there are many more faults in the movie) there was nothing to be gained from watching the movie. No revelation about humanity was gained by watching a battle between whether or not to save it. Nothing was revealed to us about the thin line between good and evil. The movie was falsely deep and completely meaningless.

In conclusion, the movie is not worth your precious time and money. It is certainly not even worth a rent. You will most likely deeply regret spending nearly three hours of your life watching a movie as tiresome as this one.
