Dead Silence

Dead Silence “Beware the stare of Mary Shaw. She had no children, only dolls. If you see her in your dreams, be sure you never, ever scream or she’ll rip your tongue out at the seam.”

From the writers and director of the Saw franchise, Dead Silence is a thriller like no other that is bound to keep you on the edge of your seat with a sudden desperation of staying silent. This has a very original storyline that offers you a taste of fear, and a desire of learning the history behind its creation.

In the town of Ravens Fair, there lies an old legend of a ventriloquist named Mary Shaw who used to perform for the townspeople in the 1940s. During one of her performances, a young boy accused her of moving her lips while acting the part of her vaudeville doll, Billy. Not long after the indictment, the boy went missing and the town instantly began pointing fingers at Mary Shaw. In an act of revenge, families and friends of the boy cut out her tongue and killed her, claiming to have silenced her for good. Yet within the years following her death, mysterious cases of murdered townsfolk began to plague Ravens Fair with one significant connection: all of their tongues had been removed.

Miles from the town, newlyweds Jamie and Lisa Ashen think they have finally started a new life together. But when a strange package arrives addressed to Jamie with a ventriloquist dummy and Lisa’s death not soon afterwards, Jamie is forced to return to Ravens Fair to trace his wife’s killer. In order to do this, he must divulge into his family’s history, only to discover a correlation between an old relative and the legend of Mary Shaw.

There aren't very many horror films I'll watch fully through. Most of the time, I'll turn them off towards the very beginning because of their ridiculous storylines. When I saw the trailer to this movie, I didn't think it was going to be any different. And with my phobia of dolls, I was sure to never watch it.

But when I finally gathered the courage to watch it with a friend, not once did I have the desire to turn it off, but it did keep me on the edge of my seat. The plot was creative, the actors and actresses did fantastic jobs, the graphics were well put together, and at the end I was in for a real shocker. Over all, it was a very decent movie, and I've watched it more than once.

If you're looking for a thriller to watch this weekend that will keep your interest, I suggest renting this for the night.
