Frost/Nixon

Frost/Nixon The movie starts off with recordings of old news broadcasts and interviews to set the mood. This was a fantastic idea and also was a good use of old footage. Michael Sheen, who plays David Frost, is then seen watching American President Richard Nixon resign. Sheen’s facial expressions during this time are unexplainable. Director, Ron Howard really captured his emotions well. Other small details such as the Italian shoes bit, and other facts such as Nixon’s brothers dying of diseases were creative as well.

Michael Sheen is not only a David Frost look alike but a sensational actor. After gaining recognition in his role as David Frost in the Frost/Nixon Broadway production, Ron Howard casted him as David Frost in his movie. Sheen did a fantastic job playing his role of Frost. Frost is a man struggling with money who wants to report on Nixon’s life. Sheen’s emotions throughout the movie are very well portrayed and flow very well with what is occurring in the movie. The part with the most tension is when:

David Frost says, “Are you really saying the President can do something illegal?”

Richard Nixon replied, “I'm saying that when the President does it that means it's not illegal!”

David Frost responds, “...I'm sorry?”

Although this movie is magnificent it has is drawbacks. For people who don’t know about the Watergate scandal President Nixon was involved in they wouldn’t understand this movie. The film is all about Frost trying to get a confession out of Nixon. It would have been more influential to people if there was more of a story behind Watergate.

The cast also did a great job of making everything look authentic although there were a few mistakes in doing so. According to IMDB.com there were at least 15 mistakes made such as leaving CHS tapes lying around, and posters for shows that had not been released. But for the most part everything noticeable is very real.

The movie was released On January 23, 2009 in the United States and in the UK. Currently the only way to see it is by DVD. The movie raised $27,015,079 worldwide with a budget of 25 million dollars. The movie was wonderful and it deserved every penny of it.
