it was a good movie in on itself, like if it was in no way connected to donnie darko i'd probably like it more. but at times i found it dragging and i got bored.

donnie darko is just an epic cassic that doesn't need a sequal to express what an amazing work of art it is.

I totally agree with your review. Donnie Darko is by far my favourite movie and I've seen it multiple times, and I absolutely hated S. Darko. I don't think I could stand watching it again. It was an insult to Donnie Darko! The acting was as terrible as the plot. I knew all along nobody could pull off a sequel to a movie like that. I was very disappointed.
    Nicely written article.

The actors are ten times better,
    and ten times as gorgeous.

But, the film is nowhere near as good, (:

i watched it over the internet, and while i agree that it was pretty bad, i don't feel that it deserves the slating it got.
I loved ed westwick in this film, and jackson rathbone was really good. donnie darko is in my top ten list of films, and i don't feel that this movie ruined it at all. i don't think that this film was trying to be as good as donnie darko, and people need to see that.

Donnie Darko was amazing and had a great plot and I watched it about 6 times, but S. Darko sucked so bad. I would never watch it again.

Well, if anything, S. Darko has done the job of glorifying the original, haha.

This has been about all that I've heard about this movie. I must say, I'm incredibly disappointed with this. I've just recently watched Donnie Darko with my mom and her girlfriend, and they loved it so much that we watched it twice more in the same night. I've only heard rumors about S. Darko, but not a single one has been positive. I had no idea what the story was on that...thanks for clearing things up. Doesn't it suck that rip-offs like that exist? :(

Thanks for the warning. I always felt that Donnie Darko was a string enough film to stand on its own, it didn't need sequels or remakes.

I completely agreed. I rented it a few months ago, and I was just.. bored. Seriously.
Jackson Rathbone was pretty good, but the plot and other actors were just incredibly crappy.

I planned to avoid this movie and your review confirms I was right to do so. Sounds even worse than I imagined... and I wasn't so sure that was possible.

Loved the first film, but S. Darko never really sparked my interest. And now you have given me more reason to not watch it.
So thank you :] Good article

I don't think it ruined the first film because I'm a big believer that something cannot ruin something else. The first film is still exactly the same as it was before this movie came out, therefor is not ruined.

But, I do agree that this film is a pile of crap.
I honestly think it may be one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
I really do wonder what the director was thinking.
Honestly, you just don't try to touch a cult classic.

This movie just failed on so many different levels.

I shall take your advice and ignore the sequel. :) I love Donnie Darko, I've watched it so many times in the fortnight I've had it. xD I usually am interested in sequels, but I don't want to ruin it for myself.

    Awesome. :D
I feel so smart for considering renting it yesterday, then sticking with The Notebook (totally different, I know. But that's that.)
I'll be sure never to see it.

To be competley honest, I think this did not do Donnie Darko one bit of justice. It ruined such good film in my opinion! My advice to anyone who hasn't seen S. Darko, is good choice. It's pretty much a waste of time, if you ask me. Stick to the original.
