The Avatar: James Cameron Strikes Again

The Avatar: James Cameron Strikes Again Avatar, the first James Cameron movie since the worldwide hit Titanic, has become easily one of Cameron's biggest successes, being snatched from the title of highest grossing film by Cameron's own Titanic.

Set in 2154, the film is based in Pandora, a moon in the Alpha Centauri star system. Corporal Jake Sully (played by Sam Worthington) plays a disabled marine, who gets involved in the Avatar Programme following the death of his twin brother. Originally, Jake's twin brother - Tom - was meant to travel to Pandora, after gaining a PhD in preparation for the journey. His Avatar, identical to his own DNA, is saved from being a waste of resources by Jake, who agrees to replace his twin brother's place onboard the programme.

The Avatar Programme is designed to create Na'vi bodies in which humans can survive and function in. Jake - instructed to gain the trust of Pandora's natives, the Na'vi - soon finds himself torn between his new body of Na'vi, blue form, and the human form of his disabled self... The reason of his conflict being the princess of the Na'vi Omaticaya tribe, Neytiri.

A love story, thriller, suspense, action, sci-fi, drama and graphicly superb movie of two hours and forty minutes follows.

Originally, Avatar was meant to be released shortly after Cameron's most famous art, Titanic. However, although the script had been written, Cameron claimed that the technology was "not yet available to portray" his vision of the film.

A breakthrough in cinematography, Avatar had cameras especially designed for the making of the film and has been released in the traditional 2D- but has been recommended for viewing in 3D formats such as RealD 3D, Dolby 3D and IMAX 3D. Due to the current and continuing success of the movie, Cameron has announced the possibility of another two sequels.

Avatar has won a total of seventeen awards and honors in total, with twenty-seven nominations, many of which are still pending.

Having gained overall outstanding reviews from professional critics and viewers alike, Avatar has become something of a frenzy. People claim to have been suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts after witnessing the beauty of Pandora, after which they have had to return to the normal, everyday mediocrity of Earth. Forums have been made on the Internet, offering advice and support for such dedicated fanatics.

Once again, James Cameron has succeeded in making another international sensation; and with two more possible sequels on the horizon, it doesn't look like the legendary movie mogul will be going anywhere anytime soon.
