The Last Song

The Last Song Based on Nicholas Spark's bestselling novel, the Last Song, stars Miley Cyrus, and real-life boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth. Both the movie and book teach life moral lessons and brought tears to many people's eyes.

The Last Song talks about how Ronnie, a young rebellious teenager is shipped off along with her brother, Jonah, to her dad's place for the summer. Ronnie is described as stubborn and a music prodigy, yet however refuses to play the piano because she is still mad at her dad for leaving the family. She holds the grudge for a while, but soon softens up. Whilst Ronnie is being a "rebel", she meets a volleyball-star at the carnival, Will. The two meet when he accidently pushes Ronnie and therefore resulting in her drink spilling all over her. From there, first love is established and the relationship between her father and her are re-connected once again.

But like all typical romance dramas, complications occur that effect Ronnie's view on life. The movie is loaded with movie cliches. There's the drug dealer who abuses his girlfriend, the snotty rich parent who looks down on her child's choice of girlfriend, an ex-girlfriend who tries to break the new couple up, and a wiser-than-his age younger brother who acts more responsibly than the adults. The whole plotline is pretty cliche, however a good cliche movie at times - is enjoyable to watch.

The acting was okay. Thats just basically it. The screenplay was quite different from the book, even though Nicholas Sparks also wrote the screenplay himself. However, the limited time of the movie, gave the movie an unbelievable aura to it. For example, Ronnie and Will go on one date - and apparently they fall in love. In the book, they go on various dates, and from there, their relationship is developed slowly, and it is more clear that their understanding of each other is stronger than the movie. Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth had chemistry, because they do have a real relationship, however the characters did not really fit with their personalities. Ronnie is a rebel, however Miley did not truly show this, she only tried to, but failed by mumbling and wearing hoodies. Greg Kinnear was absolutely spot on with the acting of the dad. Without him and Bobby Coleman (Jonah), the Last Song would indeed be harder to watch than other movies.

The Last Song brought tears to people's eyes, however the acting and plotline lacked when they were put together. I would recommend this movie if you enjoy good cliche romantic dramas.
