1408

1408 Horror movies are usually the same, you go into the theater, munch on popcorn, and get a little scared. Nothing special. 1408, based on a book by Stephen King, and directed by Mikael Håfström, completely shatters this stereotype. A wild experience of a movie with more twists than a roller coaster. Even the toughest person will leave the cinema a little shaken.

The movie opens with Mike Enslin (John Cusak), going to an apparently haunted Hotel and setting up for the night. Enslin is an author and paranormal investigator, who hit the fame with his Top 10 Haunted Hotels book. He has never had a genuine paranormal experience, until he receives a post-card purchased from a hotel in New York City, The Dolphin Hotel. The post-card simply says "Don't enter 1408" and naturally, Enslin's interest is piqued.

The manager at "The Dolphin", Gerald Olin (Samuel L Jackson), hasn't let one person stay in 1408 due to the many deaths that have happened in that one room. And, when Enslin calls up before hand, to book the room. It's "Unavailable" on any date Mike asks. Sam Farrell (Tony Shalhoub), Enslin's lawyer, tells Mike that, If no one is in the room, the hotel have to let Enslin book it. When Enslin arrives at the hotel, the Olin is very reluctant to give Enslin the key, which is not magnetic, because electronics apparently don't work in the room. But Enslin is not willing to sway, even though Olin offers a very hefty bribe.

Enslin's experience in 1408 is a unique and frightening story, and he is confronted with very emotional memories of his past, which he has tried hard to forget.

In the words of Olin, "It's an evil fucking room".
